DH and I are considering building our next house-we'd like to move next summer. We really know nothing about building so I was wondering if anyone was familiar with it-who to recommend, where to start, etc. We'd be looking in the Roc area most likely. Thanks!

Most people don't realize, but you should get a Realtor when you are building!  Realtors do so much more than just find you a house.  And the builder pays them just like any other seller.  If you don't get your own, then you would just be working with their Realtor who will get both ends of the commission.  So that would be my first step, call your agent.  New builds are listed on the MLS just like existing homes.  Drive through the new neighborhoods and go from there.

My advice is drive around developments you like, and look at what's already for sale.  We were able to talk our sellers down quite a bit, and there is no way we could have built this house for what we paid.  It's only a year old, and it's perfect. 

Just make sure you're really, really, really sure you're ready for the headache and stress of building.  Good luck!
