What gym do you belong to?

How much do you pay and do you like it?

I've been at LA Fitness for 4+ years now, and I am wanting to change. I hate that the kids club closes from 12-4 everyday, I love the classes but need a change. I was thinking about Lifetime, but not sure I want to the $$.

Re: What gym do you belong to?

  • we go to la now and arent too happy either. when we lived in chandler we went to mountainside and LOVED IT!! it was pricer than our now la membership but imo it was worth it. at mountainside i think we paid like $65 a month or so.

  • We go to Lifetime and LOVE it! Love that it's 24 hours, has a ton of equipment so no waiting or time limits, the class variety is AWESOME ( heading to zumba in a bit actually)! Having 2 indoor pools and hot tubs plus the huge outdoor pool area is really nice too. We don't have a pool so we go on the weekends just to hang out! DH loves the rockwall too! Oh and their customer service is top notch! To me it's SO worth the extra $$$- you get so much more then the basic gym!

  • I belong to my condo, haha. I have a stepper and some free weights at home and I hike a lot and play tennis, haha. I used to go to Pure Fitness, but they're nothing exciting. Cheap, but basically just cardio and weight machines (no track or pools or anything). For what I was getting there, I figured I might as well save the $20 a month and just work out at home, which personally works better for me. It doesn't seem like such a chore to me to change real quick and hop on the stepper, watch stuff off my own dvr, and then already be home when I'm done. Love that.

I do wish I belonged to a gym so I could do some cool classes, though. I've been wanting to try zumba for a long time. Maybe later this year I'll look into it again.

  • OMG Jenn, you go to Lifetime?!?!? I used to try to talk friends into joining Lifetime b/c it's awesome and I hate going to the gym alone.

I used to go, but cancelled my membership b/c, well, I've been really busy.  I just told my husband that I'm going to start going again when Andrew is 1 (in September.)

They have zumba there? I can't wait to start going.

Another thing that's awesome about LT, $5/child/month for daycare!!!

  • I was a member of Lifetime for 3 years and LOVED it! Way worth the extra money IMO. They have the BEST pools and water slides for the kids and awesome classes. I recently switched to Mountainside because it is way closer to my house. I found that I wasn't going to the gym nearly as much as I should simply because Lifetime wasn't convenient since we moved into our new house.

But now we are members of Mountainside and so far are very happy. The daycare is very nice and I like that I don't have to call ahead and schedule time for N in the daycare. At Lifetime, I believe you have to call ahead until they are 11 months.  The price is very reasonable too. We pay $62.00/month  for a couples membership and $15.00/month for unlimited daycare. The only thing they do not have is a pool. Other than that, I like it.

So long story short, I would recommend Lifetime and Mountainside. Both are very nice! :)

  • I belong to Tumbleweed Rec Center in Chandler and absolutely love it!  I looked at Mountainside (I had a friend that was a trainer there) but it was too meat-market/fancy for me.  TRC is $30 a month (for Chandler residents) with no application or sign up fees or $300 a year.  I love the fact that I can do month-to-month, if I slack for a few weeks or a month or two I don't have to pay until I go back.  I don't know what the childcare rates are, and there's no pool but the machines are nice and new and the classes are great.

  • We belonged to 24-hr Fitness, but can't afford it anymore. It's fairly inexpensive (I got a big paycut, so working out at home for free is cheaper!), good facilities, free childcare, lots of locations. We didn't have 1 complaint the whole time we were members!

We belong to Lifetime as of this summer. It is $$, but my husband works second shift and wanted a 24 hour gym. We love it so far!!! I am looking forward to trying some of the classes once school starts!

  • Thx ladies!

I think I will look into Lifetime, but I really hope you dont have to call ahead for childcare- I dont like that idea too much, so we shall see. I'd love to look at Mountainside too, but I dont think there is one close to my house, and thats key too. It has to be conveinent or else I wont go! Like I said, for the most part I have been happy with LA, and I only pay 24 per month + 10 for unlimited childcare, but I want to switch.

  • I just called today to ask about infant childcare at Lifetime.  They said, you just have to let them know 2 days in advance so they can staff accordingly.  I don't blame them. They can't really take a chance and not have enough staff on the schedule. They said at their busiest they have 8 infants (under 1.) It's a 4 to 1 ratio.

Hey! Sounds like you live close to me. I go to Pure Fitness, my club has a pool and I have a trainer. The club isn't the greatest, but I can't beat the price. I pay $18/monthly and take advantage of all of the classes I can manage.
