Accent wall advice??

Hi ladies!  I'm thinking of painting the wall our fireplace is on a warm taupe color.  We have an open floor plan and don't want to paint the living room, kitchen, dinette, and foyer, which are all connected.  So I'm thinking just painting this wall will help warm the area.  I tried to find a color not too dark or too light, and came up with Valspar Timber Dust.  With the swatch held up to the wall and fireplace, it brings out the colors in the fireplace.  I don't plan on painting the portion of the tray ceiling above it the same color- I'll just leave it what it is.  Do you think this one wall painted would look okay?

Re: Accent wall advice??

  • We have an open floor plan, and I've been considering that myself.  I say go for it!!  Sometimes it can go badly, but I think that's more when its red or purple or something.  The color you've picked its great!!

  • I think it would look good!  But, the best thing is that if you don't like it, it's a small wall and would be easy to re-paint!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. We have a paint can in the attic of the current color, so I can just check it and buy more to repaint if it goes awry.  We definitely don't want a bold color for that wall.

  • i like it a lot! great idea!

  • yeah...i would paint a small portion and see how it goes. that's what we did in the basement and it saved a lot of time and money.
  • I think it would look great!  I think you could even go a little darker....and you would still be ok :)

  • i like that idea too. we did this exact thing a couple of yrs ago when we were still living in the apt, and it came out great. the only thing is that i wish i had used a darker color b/c once the paint dried (and it was a similar color to yours except a couple of shades lighter) it looked white when light hit it. but i love the idea, and i love the color you picked out.
  • Thanks!  I think I'll get samples of Timber Dust and a color a couple of shades darker just to see...  Maybe I'll do this tomorrow... Will post pics when done.
