Re: Convertible car seats
We skipped the infant car seat and started with the convertible.
We opted for the 1st Years True Fit car seat. We got it at Walmart.

My Profile
Britax Boulevard. I actually just scored a deal this week from FAO Swartz to get one for $124 plus free shipping. They retail at $309. Baby Bargains rates it at an A-, one of the cons being that it's a large seat for small cars. It goes up to 65 pounds though, and I loved that this should last me a really long time!
Watch diapers.com and Albeebaby.com for steals and deals. Right now is a good time to buy b/c they clear out the 2010 inventory to make room for the new product line that comes out in August, I believe. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that almost everyone has them on sale right now.
I've been told to be careful about buying online from diapers and albee b/c you don't know the manufactured date of the seats and how old they are, but when I purchased my infant seat (a Graco Snugride) in March from diapers and got a heck of a deal, it had a manufacture date of 02/2010. No worries what-so-ever. I guess sometimes these websites send out year or two old seats at discounted prices? Got me. I had no problems. Not sure on my Boulevard yet, since I just ordered it. I have never heard of that happening to anyone I know, they just advised us to be careful at Kid Safe when we had our car seat checked for proper installation.
Or Babies R Us has promotional deals a few times a year where you can trade in old gear for a 25% off coupon towards a new seat. That's the best deal I've seen at BRU. Right now the Boulevard is on sale for $279, if you have a 20% coupon, you can get it for $223.
I saw this deal posted yesterday, and this morning I decided I wanted it, and now they are all sold out.
He needs a new car seat, like yesterday. Ugh.
Yeah, unfortunately that deal sold out within hours of me hearing about it. Keep your eyes peeled. Like I said, I think this is the time of year to be buying.
I think you can even buy car seats from Kohls.com (don't quote me). So if you have promo coupon codes (you can use up to two codes per purchase), you might be able to scour a good deal that way too. GL!
Britax Marathon for my 20 month old. Bought it off of Amazon for less than $150 because it was a discontinued print. I just happened to love it.
The boys, ages 5 and 4, are in Graco Nautilus seats but they are for FF only.
I got a Britax Marathon for $150 on Diapers.com. Manufacture date was recent for me. It was just a discontinued print. It goes to 35lbs RF and 65lbs FF.
I scored a Britax Roundabout50 for $49 at Target on clearance a few months ago. RF limit is 35lbs, FF is 50lbs. I don't LOVE this seat like I love the Marathon. You can tell it's the no-frills Britax seat, but I can't complain for $50 on a $200 seat.
For T, I would recommend finding a convertible with a high RF limit. Because he's a bigger baby, you'll need a higher limit to keep him RF (which I would also recommend-- go to youtube and search Rear Facing car seat to see why-- forward facing is SO much more dangerous in an accident). He has to be that way by law until 1 year old, but Mere is still RF and doesn't mind it. Don't let anyone tell you it's bad for their legs. FF accidents are bad for their SPINE, which is slightly more important than legs ;o)
Marie: to move the crotch buckle on the Roundabout, you have to take the seat out, flip it over and just undo the bottom of it. It's just like adjusting the straps on an infant seat. If Ry is still RF, it CAN NOT go out to the third slot. It can only go to the 2nd.
