Need ideas to entertain my OOT buddy

Hi guys,

My friend is coming in from D.C. tomorrow and I need some ideas for what to do on Saturday.  I had some stuff planned, but had to scrap a few things.  Here are the limitations:

1)  No shopping.  She'd rather spend her money on booze than clothes.  She's a drinker, not a shopper.  =)

2)  No physical activity beyond walking.  I originally wanted to take her on a hike with Rambo, but my body is just not ready.

3)  Nothing educational.  She works a block away from the Smithsonian museums.  She's got enough museums at home.

Thanks for your input!  We love food, so anything food-related or suggestions for places to eat are welcome.

DH and I are doing OK.  I'm mostly focused on physically recovering and he's focused on making sure I'm alright.  We're just taking things one step at a time.  Thanks again for all the hugs and love.

Re: Need ideas to entertain my OOT buddy

  • Hang in there Ann, I hope you feel better soon. It sounds like you have great support from your husband. As for things to do, here are some things that come to mind:

    - take a ride on the Mt. Hood railroad

    - take a boat ride on the Portland Spirit or the Columbia Gorge sternwheeler

    - drive from Troutdale following the old Columbia River highway. It's a beautiful drive and you can stop at some of the waterfalls such as Latourell Falls, Multnomah Falls, Wahkeena falls etc. Most of these waterfalls are really close to the road so you don't have to walk far to see anything.

    - Sample some of our famous microbrew beers. There's so many places to choose from: McMenamins, Widmer, Bridgeport, Hopworks, New Old Lompoc.

    - Take a wine tour in the Willamette valley.

    - Happy hour? I'm def. not the best person to ask about this.

    - Also on Sat. is the Portland bridge festival to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Hawthorne bridge. There's a free concert and other activities.

I hope your friend's visit will help you to have fun and forget about stuff for a while.

  • We LOVE the jet boats!  http://www.willamettejet.com/

They are SO fun.  You may get a little wet, but they go really fast and the driver talks about the different bridges and parts of the river.

  • Happy hour at Bartini or the Original

Walking tour of the falls in the gorge to Multnomah Falls. Drive and get out to look at falls & take photos. Stop for lunch in Hood River & come home.

  • the jetboats were awesome! And there are plenty of vineyards and wineries to tour. If she likes to drink that's definitely an idea.
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions!  Because of the dreary weather yesterday morning, we skipped the jetboats.  We ended up going to Voodoo Donut Too and McMeniman's Kennedy School.  Food coma set in and we headed home for a nap =)

She'll be back next summer.  We're def. doing the jetboats then!
