For those who were legally married in the DR
Morning ladies. I got my marriage certificate today, in Spanish. I should know this but what the heck do I do with it now to make this marriage legal? I am not usually this clueless, I swear.

We had to send the spanish certificate back to the Dominican Consulate (same place you had your birth certificate translated to spanish before the wedding). Within a few weeks they will send you an English copy.
When you go to change you ss card and license you will need to bring both the english and the spanish with you. I on;y took the english thinking it wouldn't matter since no one there could even read the spanish, but they need to see the seals.
ETA- Do you actually live in Phoenix? My DH is from Chandler and also lived in Mesa. We are going out there this fall, we'll have to have a AZ gtg!
In the state of CA (not sure in the others) your marriage is already legal. We just sent it back to get translated in case anyone needed it in English. Thankfully the SS office has translators so there was no problem changing my name there without the English version. I can't remember what the DMV needed. I think they did use the translated copy. We used www.wedo.com.do to do the translation. And we got it back in about a week.
Yep, it was alrady legal here too with the spanish copy because that is your legal marriage certificate.
Cool, we are planning on coming out in October but nothing is set in stone yet. I've never been and DH still has family out there so we have to go visit them I suppose. I'll post it here when we finalize our plans.
