Geneva/Batavia/St. Charles

Hi, Ladies!

DH's job is relocating us from So. Jersey to the Chicago area.

We've come across some houses in the Geneva/Batavia/St. Charles areas.  Could you give me an idea of what those towns are like?

Thanks!

(Edited to specify Chicago area - not Chicago itself.)

Re: Geneva/Batavia/St. Charles

  • My DH and I just moved from north Jersey to the Chicago burbs about a month ago due to his job relocation as well. ?It's much different out here, but nothing us Jersey girls can't handle ?:) ?Are you guys looking to live in the city or the burbs? ?I'm sorry to say that I only have info on the latter. ?Hope the move goes well! ?If you need an AWESOME realtor (who also specializes in relocation), just let me know... she's amazing!
  • Wow!  What a coincidence!  Where did you move to?  How do you like it?

DH's job is in Romeoville.  He has been out in the area a bunch of times for work, and I've been out there once.  We've got a house to sell, and in this market, it's taking forever!  Our house has been on the market since last October, and we just want to get this thing moving and done with!

His job has provided us w/a rea out there who we've been working with, but thanks for the offer.

While we'd love to live in Chicago itself, it looks way to expensive for us.  We're looking for smaller, more affordable towns, which is why we're interested Geneva/Batavia/St. Charles. Are you familiar with that area?

  • In all honesty, since I've only been out here a month, the only town I'm familiar with is St. Charles. ?The DH and I actually took a trip out one day to visit a store I had seen online, and let me tell you... it's OUT there! ?It's a cute town, but seems rather secluded from some of the other amazing communities around. ?Not as much to do and see as some of the other western burbs, and certainly farther from the city itself.

My hubby and I moved to a town called Elmhurst. ?We were looking for something with great schools (no kids yet, but trying soon), a great community feel with an amazing downtown, and a Metra line into the city. ?It has everything we wanted! ?You can find homes from $250k-1M all in pristine neighborhoods within the town itself. ?We're about 10 miles southwest of the city (about a 30 min train ride in). ?Some other towns in our area are Lombard, Downers Grove, and Glen Ellyn. ?All are known for being great communities. ?You might also want to check out Naperville. ?It's probably where we would have ended up if it weren't for the longer commute for the DH. ?It's a spectacular community, amazing downtown, but again, a little more west than where we are. ?All are worth taking a look at online (each has it's own website) and I'd be happy to give you more info if you need! ?

Good luck with the house sale ?:) ?Where in south jersey are you? ?We moved here from Bergen county (very north).?

  • P.S. ?if you'd rather e-mail directly, my address is ljbrall@aol.com ? :)
  • I agree with pp.  Those towns are pretty far from Romeoville.  Probably at least 45 minutes without traffic.  Try anything along the I-355 corridor - Lemont, Woodridge, Downers Grove, Lisle, Lombard.  Lauren is right.  Elmhurst is an awesome town.  I'm in Downers Grove, which is about 25 minutes from Romeoville.  It also has a cute downtown, access to the trains and highways, and reasonably priced homes.  You could even look right in Romeoville or Bolingbrook, but they both have some questionable areas.  Good luck!
