Can you tell me about the ebay seller you used to purchase vanilla beans?

Which type did you buy to make vanilla extract?  And what kind of alcohol did you use to do it?

Re: Lauren

  • hey. sorry i didn't get right back to you. i thought i bought ebay, but i actually did go with amazon. i know i was going back and forth. i bought it under dh's acct, so that's what took so long. I couldn't remember his password :) this is where i bought the beans

I bought the cheapest vodka I could find. It's 'SKOL' brand, which I've never drank before. haha. I've read some reviews that say more expensive vodka leads to better extract, but the blogger whose directions I followed used the cheap stuff and said it tasted great. And afterall, I'm trying to save money by making these gifts, so I didn't want to go broke buying top shelf liquor if the cheaper stuff works just fine, ya know?

here's a link to the directions i followed. she gave some good guidelines on how many beans/vodka it takes to make different amounts.

mine's been soaking for about a month. it's as dark as night!
