Work Benefits?

Taylors post got me wondering - what kind of benefits does everyone have through work?  It varies so much depending on what industry/size of company etc...

Sooooo what are your benefits with your company?  I'm talking everything from healthcare, PTO, employee appreciation days, retirement contributions, cell phone allowances...etc.  Literally, anything!  Oh and what kind of company do you work for?

Re: Work Benefits?

  • I work for a small business, so no benefits here.  I get major holidays off and they're paid.  But no discretionary, so the honeymoon was unpaid.

Casey's current employer offers benefits through Aetna (med, dental, vision), and its like the worst plan they offer...cheaper for the company, I guess.

We pay all doctor visits out of pocket (not a co-pay, the entire cost) until we spend a certain amount, then the visits are "free".  Of course this limit is inconceivably high, one that we'll never actually reach.  Needless to say, we haven't been to the doc all year.

They do have a very nice prescription package though, which is most important to us b/c Casey's insulin costs more than our mortgage w/o insurance.

He also has PTO and a 401k/retirement package, but I know nothing of the specifics.

  • they offer us: employer paid medical, dental, and vision insur. we pay the co pay only. aflac insur is offered at a discounted rate of like $14 a pay period (bi weekly). every employee has a life insurance plan of $5k i think. 3 wks of pto per year. all paid holidays and birthdays. they contribute to your 401k after 1 yr of employment. and the christmas party!!! every xmas they have given every employee $100 plus they always have games with cash prizes. last yr i got the $100 plus another $150 from the games. for other 'holidays' they do contests with prizes like cash, gift cards, ect. (like 4th of july - the best 3 employees in 4th of july attire each got $100)

i work for a health and wellness company.

  • We have PTO, vaca time.  Our vision, dental and medical are covered for the employee (high deductible though and for a spouse/family it's way to expensive- about 600/month!!!).  We also can choose group life and disability ins and we can participate in a 401K.

  • We have medical, dental and vision - 80% paid by employer (vision might be like 60%)

A bunch of available Aflac plans and FSA - if you do dependent childcare FSA, employer pays $1600 into that account for you.

401k is 50% matched up to 15%.  So if contributing 15%, your total into retirement is 22.5%.

PTO accrues at different rates, you start at 3 weeks per year and can go up to 5 weeks.  We also get one personal float day a year and all government holidays off - including the day after Tday.

Every year we have a $1600 towards tuition/furthering education.

Every month we have a cake day where we do cake and raffles to celebrate that months birthdays/anniversaries.

We have an annual holiday party, an employee "unity" day and lots of dine-outs, wine tasting fundraisers, and auctions that are fun to go to and usually involve prizes which can be very large (one year the grande prize was a flatscreen tv).

Bonuses are usually fairly substantial depending on the contracts that year and performance.

Depending on your position you also receive cell phone reimbursement and auto allowances.

I work for a non-profit, and it rocks!

  • Well since I just teach at the gym and teach online I don't have anything fancy pants.

DH gets 3 "personal" days a  year, (he is a teacher, in Mesa) then he has sick time but I'm not sure how much ( it accumulates monthly).

Healthcare for him was FREE awesome.

    Added me = 450 a month

    Added me +DD= 600 a month!....ridic.

He has arizona state retirement which looks to be pretty good.

    That's all folks

  • I am SHOCKED at how much some places charge for healthcare!  Our medical, dental and vision is less than $80 for the two of us per month.   I feel totally lucky right now.

Casey's take-home pay is completely annihilated by the cost of insurance.

  • I work for a bank and since this is my thrid year with the company i get 23 day's PTO, this is sick days, vacation everything all lumped into one.  We have Vison insurance fore $2.75 for me and $3.60 for CJ and dental is $5.75 and medical is $80(something) per pay period with a $300 deductable.  6 week maturnity leave, and if you commute one day a week you can get a $20/month commuter subsidy.  Tuition remburs. is $5k a year. We have a cash balance and 401k which they will match 100% up to 6% contribution.  We have annual "year end" party because apperently they don't believe in saying holiday. and they also will buy us lunch and or breakfast everyonce in a while.

I should add that i currently only have CJ on my vision, if i were to have him on my medical and dental they would double per pay period...

  • I work for att and our benefits are good. Depending how long you have been with the company determines how much vay cay you get. I have been here 4 1/2years and get around 16days of paid vacation we get full benefits but you have to meet an out of pocket deductible before they give you full coverage but its $16 per check for insurance and thats teeth, eyes, and health care. We get paid holidays and double time and half over time. Did I mention we are hiring so ifyou need a job with good beneis come here!!
  • I have 18 days a year of PTO, my 401k is matched 50% up to 15%, and I only get paid for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

On the other hand, since Josh works for UPS our benefits rock!

We only pay $80 a month for our medical, dental, and vision insurance. Plus, we gets a 22% discount on our cell bill (which helps a ton), a boat load of corporate discounts, tuition reimbursement, and a bunch of other crap I don't know about.

  • Ok... Let me see if I can figure this out (this is Carl's company by the way)

Medical/Dental/Vision/Rx - We pay 125 per paycheck (bi weekly), and if there are 3 checks in one month, they only take the pay out of the first two. After that, our copays are all 15$ except for the ER which is only like $75. No deductables or anything like that.  For dental, we get $2K a year to spend and Vision we can spend up to $300 on glasses. Not to bad

They get 11 holidays (5 of those holidays are the whole week of Chrismas off) paid.

The PTO accrual is based off of how long you've been with the company. It starts with like 3.25 hours per paycheck and goes up to 7.95 hours per paycheck so you can actually get a lot of days off depending on length of service.

401K is great. I don't remember how much, but you are full vested after a year and they match you up to like 5% or something and then you get 50% after that.

We get a 14% discount on our cell bill

tuition reimbursement up to 5K a year

Annual bonus is 15% of annual pay

ummm they have the FSA and all that too but we don't use it so I don't know much about those either.

Oh and Carl has life insurance 5x's his annual salary, and the kids and I are 1x his annual salary all for free. They do go over that but we did not do that much yet. We wanted to wait until next year to go higher...

ETA: Oh and if you have a baby (or if your wife has a baby) they give you a week off, paid. Not out of your vacation time either...

and he works for a mid-sized data center which has sites all over the world.

  • I am on the other side of the fence....we own a small business (6 employees) so its interesting for me to see what other companies (big and smal) do!

We offer then 10 days of PTO per year, the 7 major holidays paid (but only after the first year of employement), We offer medical and dental insurance and I pay about 80% of their medical (they pay around 100.00 per month) through BCBS, but we dont cover any amount for spouses and/or dependants. We give pretty nice holiday bonuses each year too ;)

Seriously, my agency rocks.  One of the most fun places to work - the people are insanely awesome.  I'm sure there were other benefit things in there that I'm missing.

Like I know we get phone bill discounts, rental car discounts etc.

The one thing we don't have that I really wish we did, was a proper maternity plan.  I think it's crappy that we only can take up to what our PTO bank is and then it's unpaid (unless you have STD).  So best case scenario if you bank all your PTO, you get five weeks paid...

I used to work for an art museum and the benefits there were pretty good too - we got a free membership that included partial memberships to a bunch of museums/gardens/zoos around the valley.  It was pretty awesome.  Plus we could take "art walk" breaks during the day if you needed a cool down from work for a few minutes.  It was awesome to tour the Museum whenever I wanted to!

We're growing so much that there have been rumours of the accounting department growing this next year.  But you're so FAR from us!  Oh and we have a teeny tiny little itsy bitsy rule that all employees have to be 21 or older.  So hurry up there missy and move out of FH!

Eeek!  You HAVE to be 21?!  Rules like that piss me off.  I'm married, own a home, and two cars.  I could've fought in a fuucking war and/or had 2 kids by now, but I can't work there?!

    ::exhale::

Sorry.  I get REAL pissed at age discrimination.

Anywho, that sounds like a wonderful company to work for (aside from the age requirement, lol)!

It's a sucky rule.  From what I know though, it's mandated by the state because of our funding.  It's really weird.  I've often wondered where it came from.

  • Ha!  Haha!  Hahahahahaha!!!

Sorry, I'm self employed.  I don't have any sort of healthcare, if I ever want to retire I'll have to win the lottery, and I have to pay for my own cell phone.

BUT, I love my job!  It's fantastic and flexible and fun and I get to travel to lots of cool places (going to Cabo for the first time in October!).  It's worth it.

  • As usual, I'm chiming in late but I work for a nation wide medical company, in the billing department.  Our benefits are:

    • 5 weeks PTO a year. You get that after you've been working there for 6months.
    • Extended sick leave.  It accrues at a lesser rate, but I think it's a week a year.  You can't use that until you've used 3 of your regular PTO days for illness or if you have surgery.
    • Medical Insurance.  We pay roughly $100 per pay check for both DH & I.  The plan isn't horrible, but it's not the greatest either.  $250 deductible, and then 80/20 after that
    • Dental Insurance.  Super cheap, and decent coverage.  Haven't had to have any major work done, so not sure what that would cost us if we did.
    • Vision Insurance. Also super cheap.  A couple bucks a check.  And really good coverage.  I think I paid $30 for my last pair of glasses.
    • FSA account
    • 401K.  After 1 year, they match your contribution up to 6%
    • I get 24% discount on our cell phones.  There's other discounts as well, but that's the one that I take advantage of.
    • Tuition reimbursement.
    • Quarterly bonuses, providing we meet our goals as an office.

DH's is pretty awesome.  I can't remember all of it, but I know he gets 3 weeks PTO, 6 week paid paternity leave, medical actually costs a little more there, so that's why he's on my plan.  Bonuses, FSA which his employer contributes $1000, lots of discounts offered, and much more, but I can't remember them all.
