Re: Curb Appeal Help!
Since you're new, folks here aren't terribly keen about sifting through blogs to find pics. You'll get lots more answers if you PIP.
I don't think your house is boring at all. It's classic and charming. You need some grass. Go to scotts.com and do the Annual Lawn Care Program finder. It'll suggest products to help you out. I'd say your main problem is either shade or acidity. The pinestraw leads me to think you've got lots of pine trees overhead which are not letting enough sun through and increasing the soil acidity. You might need to neutralize that for your best lawn.
Since you're in the triangle, I think a crepe myrtle on the corners would be pretty if there's full sun there. If it's shady, try vertical evergreens. Bring your flower beds out and curve them so you don't have little soldier shrubs all in a row. Make them more than one plant deep. For sun, try Flower Carpet roses; for shade, azaleas.
