XP Ind bump: Any Realtors?

Hey.  I currently have a BA in Spanish, but with the educational cutbacks I am looking for a different career path.  I have always been interested in real estate so I thought I would get your thoughts.   Do you like your job? Would you recommend it?  How do you get certified? Any other points I should be thinking about?  TIA!

Re: XP Ind bump: Any Realtors?

  • Hi Mrs. Dovey!

I worked as a real estate assitant for about 3 years, almost 2 years ago. What this meant was I had my own RE license, but I worked exclusivly for another top producing realtor. My whole job was to help with her clients, and I was paid a consistent salary. To get my RE license, I attended a class that was about 10 weeks long, took several tests during the class (you were required to earn a certain amount of points on these tests to pass the class) and then i took a licensing exam. After that you need to join a RE firm/agency. If you are not working for another realtor, most agents are paid on a strict commisson basis, meaning to make money you have to sell a home

The business has changed a lot since I worked in it, unfortunatley because of the slow down to the economy. For agents with a family, it can be great and can be tough because almost all of the work in RE is done at night and on the weekends.

I am happy to answer more questions if I can, but hopefully that gives you some basic info! Good luck!!
