Help me make a decision!

We drove to DFW yesterday and looked at some houses, condos, and apartments, and we are going to go with the apartments because we can get a 6 months lease.  So between the apartments, there is a really fancy one, that's more loft like, but it's right on the lake, and there is an older apartment complex in the same general area that cost half the other one.

Would you choose the cool apartment living for 6 months, or save up the difference and go with the old apartment, after all it's only 6 months?

I would probably take the less expensive if I knew it was just for the short-term.  With a new job, moving and looking for a new place, you may not be around much anyways.

We have so many friends living in these bad-ass apartments/condos/high rises downtown and I'm SO stinking jealous! I know it's not a life I'd want to live long term because of our dogs and the baby on the way, but MAN! I wish we had done it for 6 months to a year before we got tied down!

We don't have a baby on the way  but I totally agree with this statement!  Go for it.

I'd say the nicer apt.  I wish we had the chance to live in one of the cool apts/condos downtown when we first moved to austin, I think I'd have a better appreciation for the city.  living in the kuntry (errr, leander) is definitely not the same.  

hopefully you'll be able to explore DFW and have a better idea of where you'll want to move permanently.

Cool! That's right down the street from my office.  We looked at some loft-style apartments over there back in 2006 but there are SO many more options there now than there were then.
