I'm about to start my cycle so I figured I would put it in. When I sit down, I'm fine, but when I stand up, I feel the stem. I've pushed it farther, but then I'll have issues reaching the stem. This may be TMI, but my doctor has told me I have a long vaginal canal. What am I doing wrong? Help please
Re: Diva Cup Help
push it up farther. I never use the stem to remove it, i just bare down, reach up there, and pinch the sides together to break the suction. Really get it up there as far as you can get it in. I always squeeze my muscles a little to bring it up even further (like im holding in pee) when i put it in.
GOOD LUCK!!!!! keep working with it! and u can always cut the stem, but try pushing it up farther first.
you shouldn't feel it at all...it should be far enough up there that u don't notice it.
I'm definitely going to cut the stem then. That's what I'm feeling more than anything.
Thanks everyone.
Definitely cut the stem off.
It sits very close to the bottom of my vagina. Pushing it in higher is likely to cause leaking. And for me, I can put it where I want it, but the shape of my body always moves it to the same spot afterward.
Tip: When trimming it, cut it at an angle so the remaining portion of the stem tapers toward the end. Try using a sharp knife (if you have one you are comfortable using for this purpose), as it is hard to cut it on an angle with scissors. If you do use scissors, try cutting just the very end first, to get a feel for how it will cut, then cut it down to desired length. Either way you'll probably have to make several cuts to get a smooth-ish edge (worth the extra effort!).

I did not cut the stem. When I feel the stem In know I dont have it positioned just right for me so I like it as an indicator. You are correct that you should not be acutely aware of it once it's in. My biggest problem at the beginning was trying to insert it like a tampon. It goes less "upwards" and more "back" if that makes any sense.
ETA: also things are different when you're not on your cycle, so practicing beforehand might not workout.
I started my cycle today and I knew I would do some spotting last night. I'm actually glad that I started last night. I cut the stem off, started little by little and then whacked it off, and it's perfect. Had it on all day and didn't feel it. Also I have a system now on which position is easier to insert and remove.
I can officially proclaim that after one day...I LOVE DIVA CUP!
I don't use a diva cup, but recently started using a moon cup and I cut half of the stem off. I'm a little nervous to nix the whole thing, but the intructions actually said that most women can feel the stem and this is the number one cause of irritation while using a menstrual cup. So, like others said, I'd try trimming it or, if you're comfortable with it, cutting the stem off altogether.
I also cut the stem completely off. I second using a knife versus scissors, it's hard to get an even cut with scissors. I don't feel mine at all when it's in, I push it way up there. To get it out, I bear down like I'm having a (sorry TMI) bowel movement, pinch the bottom of the cup with my thumb and first finger to break the suction, and twist while pulling it down.
Try experimenting with different folders to get it to go a bit higher. If you google "Diva Cup folds" I'm sure other options than the punch-down will come up, although that's what I use.
