Nannies .... Come in please

I am doing a one day babysitting job from 7:30 until 3:30 next week. They have a Wii and lots of board games, along with plenty of art supplies and balls to play with. It's 3 boys under 10. I would just like to be able to entertain them with something they may not normally do. So, what are some fun things you do with the kids that you sit for during a long day?

Re: Nannies .... Come in please

  • I am a nanny for two girls. Even though I know it's only one day I highly recommend a schedule. It can be a really loose schedule and you can switch it around if you want but at least you will go in with a game plan. The girls (5 and 11) both really like to know what's coming and what I have planned. I'll give you ours or an example:

8-9: breakfast/ free time (we usually talk or play a game)

    9-10:30- Outside Play

    10:30- 12 Movie or games

    12- 12:30 lunch

    !2:30-12:45 a quick clean up

12:45 -2:00 Rest time ( they don't have to sleep just do a quiet activity)

2- 2:30 craft time ( or an enrichment activity)

    2:45- 3::30 clean up

3:00- 3:30- free time (usually we color or play cards)

Again I know you will only be there one day but hopefully that helps break it down into some possibilities. Also none of this has to be in stone but it might help to go in with an idea.

Sorry I forgot to add the ideas! :
    Water balloons were fun
    Forts in the living room
Pjs and popcorn during the movie
Baked cookies (again I have girls but you never know!)
Had a concert with various household objects
We play a lot of tag, hide-n-go-seek, pretend, leap frog, Simon says, red light green light, follow the leader, duck duck goose...
    Do a treasure hunt
    Bubbles

  • Having a loose schedule of what you should do is a really good idea. You have to be very flexible though! (especially since there are 3 little boys!) You should go for a walk or go to the park or even go to the swimming pool. I always try to bring my own games or coloring books when I go to babysit. It gives the kids something new to do and they usually get very excited about this!
