Welcome to OR Sixlette

How was the trip? How did your two dogs do? What do you think of Cottage Grove? What part of SD did you come from?

To be honest, Eugene is a bit isolating for me with no Nordstrom or Crate & Barrell. I like to touch things before I buy. Coming from a place with shops like Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza (I hate to sound materialistic) can well take an adjustment here. But I'm focusing on more important things like spending more outdoors time with my DH. I exercise more and am more physically active. We definetely have a more organic lifestyle here and I love it.

Re: Welcome to OR Sixlette

  • Whoa...no Nordstrom?? I would have hard time with that.I still hate having to drive to Beaverton for Crate & Barrel or Z Gallerie.

    LC - I didn't realize..are you a CA convert as well?

  • Yup. From South OC. Ha! I have to drive two hours to get to Bridegeport Village for some real shopping. I can't believe they have a Coach store! I tried convicing DH for us to move to Hillsboro or Lake Oswego but he said what was the point of moving if we were jsut going to put ourselves in the same environment. boo.

Eugene has no, ZGallerie, no Anthropologie. The real stores here are Target, Macys, and we just got a Pottery Barn! and it's only one of each. I don't have the options of checking out the sale stock at different stores. I'm trying hard to get out of that mentality and enjoy the rivers and hiking trails. DH and I can't wait for snowboarding. Plus I have found a new healthier hobby that I enjoy very much.

  • Sorry to butt in :)  I normally just lurk, but your post made me smile bc it reminded me of my time in Eugene at UofO.  I only went to school there, but if I needed a Nordy's fix, I would totally drive my a$$ up to Washington Square for the day.  I guess they used to have a Nordstrom (years and years ago), but they closed it down because no one shopped there.  CRAZY! Who doesn't shop at Nordstrom?!

Anyways, welcome to Oregon to both of you nesties and hope all is well in Eugene :)

  • I would have to disagree with your DH. I could never compare So Cal with anything in the NW.

I was in LA for 7 years before SF. It's definitely a breath of fresh air.

There is always Nordstrom.com too ;)

  • Hey thanks!  we made it a 2 day trip...2 8 hour car rides.  the pups were fine.  Driving through shasta was beautiful.  Cottage grove is a lot different than San Diego.  I wish that I had a chance to see the area first, there are a lot nicer places in CG than where we live, but it will do for now.  The house is really cute on the inside but only 1/2 done on the outside.  Our landlord is kind of lazy about it all.  There weren't any blinds or curtains on the windows so we had to put blankets up for a couple of days.  I felt ghetto.  I went to walmart and bought cheap curtains and blinds.  There is a light in the kitchen that doesn't have a switch so it is always on...funny stuff, we also live really close to a train track so every morning at 3 and 5 we hear the train whistle.  I haven't been to Eugene yet, but I'm sure we'll be moving there in a year.  Right now there is an air raid siren going off, not sure what that means...If anyone lives in CG and has any ideas about stuff to do, or where to go let me know please?!?  Also, I don't care about nordstrom or malls really.  As long as there is a Target nearby.

  • Yay! Glad to hear you guys and the pups made it ok.

I love the sceanery out in CG. Check out Eugene. Its like a mini LA with a downtown, one way streets and bums everywhere so I'm not use to that. I avoid it at all costs. Check out the Coburg area to buy. The area where we live (8 minutes from dwnt) is pretty nice, close to Costco, clean, and safe.  The homes are beautiful! a bit pricey but not as bad a CA. No cookie cutters here for sure. There are two Targets, two Walmart, four major shopping centers divided equally between Springfield and Eugene and three hospitals. Springfield is up and coming- new hospital, hotels, shopping, and lofts. Check out 5th Street in Eugene - the chic and trendy place to shop, drink, and dine.

You are the second person I know, on The Nest, that lives here. So I'm totally excited for you being here! :)
