Hosting a shower...

I am hosting a  bridal shower with 2 other friends for a girl we know. Long story short right now she has only been told someone would host a lingerie shower for her. Her FMIL is catholic and my friend is not and bc she is not having a priest at her wedding her FMIL told her church friends to not host her a shower bc she did not want my friend to be uncomfortable.

Anyways at first we thought about having a just generic shower with all the girls but she called me saturday and asked about having a couples shower. She said that her FI wants to be involved in something and all the couples are friends.

Anyways we thought about a Around the House shower but my friend came up with the idea about a Houseware and Hardware shower...thoughts??

Re: Hosting a shower...

  • I think that is a cute idea because it gets the guy involve too and he gets gifts to open too.

  • A houseware and hardware shower is a good idea, and different.  Are you going to have it more like a shower (games, opening gifts), or skip the games and do like a cocktail thing?
  • we are thinking just having like a cocktail type thing. the fi does not drink but i dont see the guys wanting to getting too involved in the games.

  • I had a Jack & Jill wedding shower. The theme was the Red Sox, so everyone came wearing red sox stuff. They ordered special red sox shirts for us with our last name and wedding date on them as the numbers. We didnt do any games and we just had regular gifts. DH opened the gifts with me and he seemed to enjoy that just as much as I did.

We had ours at a chinese food restaurant and mostly just sat around and talked to everyone.

  • DH and I are members of a country club here and we can use the banquet room there for a 200 deposit we get back one the room has been cleaned. The room overlooks the golf course and is decorated very pretty so we are thinking about having it there. And then between the 2 of us suppling the food which will be heavier foods but not a full supper.

  • I think it's a great idea!  And if you do want to do any kind of games, you could do "non-shower" games...like Pictionary or Outburst or something that you could play on teams.

  • One of my sister's had a couple's shower that was super fun. It was a "honey-do shower" and the registery was referred to as the "honey-do list." The games we played were "couples games" like "how well do you know your significant other" or games about how well the bride and groom knew each other. It was a lot of fun.

I've also been to a honeymoon themed shower where people gave money, beach towels, etc, as gifts. It was fun, but the downside was that a lot of people didn't shop from the registry, and they got a lot of things they didn't necessarily need.
