Oh, neat!  I didn't know you were going to get an engineering degree.  How hard is it to do that and hold a full time job?  I can't imagine...

I have a friend who has an english degree and is in our editing department- she corrects grammar, format, etc in documents and she wishes she had gotten an engineering degree but doesn't think she could hack that with a full time job.

I would warn you that engineering isn't what most people think it will be, but if you're already a tech editor I bet you know what it's really like.  And it definitely takes someone interested in science and math.  At least where I work, I have to admit that we are an interesting breed, haha.

Re: Marsh27

  • This is a pretty new development, actually.  After college I had always planned on going to law school, but I just got discouraged with the whole idea.  Then I took this job in February of 2009 and it kind of just fit.  So I started considering to go back for engineering and I finally applied this summer and just got my acceptance on Friday.  I know I probably sound crazy working FT and doing engineering, but I think I can make it work.  I probably won't take more than three classes at a time, but we'll see how it goes!  I figure the engineers I work with can help me with my studies. :)
  • Well, if you need moral support or anything, I'm here for ya! Good luck, it will probably be crazy.  And I'll be interested to see how hard it is for you, because I can tell my friend and maybe she'll decide she wants to try it, too.

    Are you doing this online?

  • Thanks, I will probably be taking you up on the offer of moral support. :)  I'm actually going to be taking classes at a nearby university.  Thankfully, most, if not all, the classes have sections offered in the evening, so there should be little disruption to my work schedule.
