DC Nestie visiting LA advice

Hello from the East Coast!

DH and I will be in LA from the 14th-19th. This is our first trip to LA. Do you have any suggestions for what we should do? We are laid back, up for anything. We will be near UCLA for a little bit to check out the law school. I have been told that we have to eat at Back on the Beach Cafe in Santa Barbara. That's about all we have planned. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

  • Oops just realized Back on the Beach is in Santa Monica. :)

  • Anyway you can be a little more specific about what you want to do?  LA is a pretty big place.  Do you want to do the touristy stuff, just hang on the west side (beach), do you like museums?  What kind of food do you like?  Let us know and we'd be more than happy to help!
  • Go to the Hollywood Bowl.  Stop by Lemonade on Beverly to get some food.

Rent bikes and travel down the Venice bike path.

    Check out a farmer's market.

Eat a Michelin starred restaurant (there are a bunch around here).

    Go to Langers.

    Find a food truck.

Go to the Getty or the Fowler while you're at UCLA.

    Go whale watching.

    Shop on Melrose or Robertson.

Check out my blog for some ideas...

Also look at Goldstar LA for cheap tickets to things and Hidden LA for off the beaten path types of things.

  • ^^ all of these ideas are great.

You might also want to check out Jonathan Gold's list of 99 things to eat in LA before you die, and see if anything jumps out at you.

  • Sorry for responding so late. I have been completely absorbed with paper and final projects. I will never take a classes full-time over the summer.

DH and I are game for touristy stuff: movie studios, going surfing, Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre and Griffith Observatory. We aren't big clubhoppers, we prefer going to bars.

We are trying to explore the area to prepare for our move to LA next fall. Thanks so much for your help!

  • If you're into the tourist thing, I highly suggest you take a tour bus in Hollywood. They will take you to celebrity homes, up Hollywood Blvd and the Walk of Fame which is where Graumanns Chinese Theater and the Kodak Theater are too. I also think it may be fun for you to be in the audience of a taping for a tv show like Jimmy Kimmel Live. You can check out 1iota.com for info on that and other shows.

You can also go to Universal Citywalk, LA Live, The Grove or Downtown Disney for shopping and eating. Those are pretty popular and they all have a variety of restaurants, theaters, and shops.

HTH and have fun while you're here.
