Well, it's not really a care package.. it's my aunt's birthday in a few weeks and I put together a box of little gifts. She is very much into all things 'green' so I have been finding all these goodies..
Reused a cardboard box to mail everything in.. and the box is stuffed with a variety of colorful reused pieces of tissue paper (sort of like a gift basket).
- Market basket (main gift)
- reusable produce bags (by BlueAvocado - so cute!)
- organic chia seeds (she uses flax seeds, so I wanted to introduce her to chia seeds too)
- Organic dried banana snack with acai flavoring (we have been looking for an acai product that actually tastes good)
- "Happy Pho" noodles (gluten free noodles/sustainable/etc) (http://staranisefoods.com/ but I got them on Amazon.com)
and some other little stuff.. plus I already sent her some coconut oil DH has no idea how excited my aunt and I get over this stuff, but I know she will love it. It's not just because it's all 'green', but because I know she will enjoy it - I feel like a lot of gift giving makes people buy stuff impulsively because they don't know what to get (which I've done), so it is nice to get useful stuff!
Re: I just made an awesome 'green' care package :)
i'm so glad you shared this! i know i would love to receive a gift like this & your aunt will too!
i struggle with giving gifts. i also struggle with sending cards - i cannot justify the generic card that i know will end up right in the trash.. SO WASTEFUL!
i've actually stopped sending cards & buying gifts "just because i should." people will receive their birthday & xmas gifts from me all year round - whenever i come across that "perfect" gift that i know will be appreciated & not wasted. or whenever have the time to sit down & write exactly what i want to say that is meaningful in a card.
We have actually stopped doing cards because we believe the same.
I don't really send cards because I work in the card industry.
What is the market basket?
The banana snack sounds good! Speaking of acai, I got an acai juice that I thought was good, and also Endangered Species has a bar with acai that is sooo good!
Back to cards though - there are a number of recycled products, and these are pretty cool http://www.leanintree.com/Seed-Cards.html all recycled, and then you can grow them. It comes wrapped in plastic, but that's recyclable.
