Questions about your wedding...

For an upcoming article, we want to know: What were some things you nearly forgot about until it was almost too late? (For example, one of our editors nearly forgot to buy a gift for friends who hosted the ceremony in their backyard).

Also, did anyone encounter any honeymoon disasters? What did you do to make it a great trip anyway?

Thanks!

I forgot to pack the coffee pot (we were camping). I would consider that a disaster! Surprisingly, my husband did not immediately file for divorce. We made a couple of trips into the nearest town for showers and a visit to a coffee shop, but mostly, we just sucked it up.

  • Hmmmm... my husband got sick with a sinus infection on day 2 of our honeymoon, so we were stuck in Jamaica with no antibiotics.  We still made the best of it and had a blast, but we missed out on some of the experiences the resort had to offer (scuba diving, water sports, etc.)

  • I forgot to purchase a cake cutting set. Luckily, a family friend gifted us a beautiful Lenox one. Otherwise, I would have brought a spatula from home!

  • We had rented a condo on the beach in Florida for our honeymoon. When we arrived the rental office was closed and we couldn't get into our condo. After calling the emergency number on the office door and being on hold for 20 minutes we were finally given a code to get in. At first everything seemed great. Then we found hair in the sheets of our bed, the tile floor was sticky, the carpet was greasy, the air conditioner was broken, and they were building a new pier right beside our building. We ended up sleeping on the pull out couch in the living room that night with the balcony doors open because it was so hot. The next morning my DH called the office and told them we were not staying the rest of the week, told them about all of the problems and asked for our money back. The lady was very nice and apologetic about our experience with them and refunded every penny. Thankfully we were able to find a really nice hotel about an hour down the beach that we liked even better!

  • After I walked down the aisle and we started the ceremony I realized I had no tissues!! I was so afraid I was going to start crying, I just smiled real big and focused on breathing. Luckily I'm not a big crier so it was okay :) Other than that I really overpacked haha. The only thing used from my "emergency bag" was 2 altoids, and I never even changed into my reception dress!

  • The closest thing to a honeymoon disaster was me getting extremely sick after the wedding from lack of sleep. It cut into the activities we would have liked to do, but we needed the time to relax anyway.
  • We forgot to get gifts for our parents.  We went to a salon at the mall to get our pedicures done before the rehearsal, and so I had to run to the engraving store, buy some picture frames and have them engraved while we were getting our nails done.  Then I realized that we didn't get one for my godparents, so after the pedicure, I ran back down to the store, ordered another one, and told them I'd pick it up after the rehearsal.  So of course it was 4pm on a Friday and traffic was a mess since I had to go to the hotel for the rehearsal, back to the mall and then all the way out to the rehearsal dinner!  My husband was great, buying gift bags and cards for the gifts while I finished up at the store.  I'm glad all the rushing around happened on Friday and our wedding day was smooth as silk!

  • My mother-in-law almost forgot to bring the photo guestbook to the wedding.  She remembered in plenty of time, though!

And as for the honeymoon, we learned that our flight to Atlanta (and then to St. Lucia) was cancelled as we were standing at the ticket counter at 6am, packed and ready to go.  We didn't even think to check to see if our flight was on schedule before leaving home.  There was absolutely no way for us to get to St. Lucia that day.  It was a huge bummer and we had to make a lot of calls, but (with the help of our wonderful travel agent), we were able to rearrange all plans and shift the entire trip over one day.
