Re: brett favre
*cackles*
Is it wrong I'm feeling not a small bit of schadenfreude at this? SO GLAD Green Bay got that monkey off their back.

Yeah, he's a douche for sure, but I'm not really pitying the Vikes too much. They knew he would pull this crap when they first signed him --it's been his MO for a few years now.

Sorry I'm butting in here - I normally don't post much - but this article clearly states that nothing is official yet. It seems like the press wants to stir drama up around this at least as much as Favre. Sigh, I guess I'm one of those Minnesotans that is still holding out hope that he does come back....
I am an avid Green Bay fan and am SO HAPPY to see him go (if he really is) as a fan...but I still do think it's a little sad. Yes, he's a drama queen, but honestly it's hard to find a football player that loves playing more than he does. Never missing a game? I don't care who you are, you have to admit that's impressive.
It's ALL speculation at this point.
I truly HATE THE MEDIA for this. Until he says it himself, just drop it!
It's sad to see a Packer fan say they're "so happy" to see him go. Jeez, bitter much? He's one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game, it doesn't matter what team he goes to, or how the media stirs up his drama (or what he had to do because the *** Packer administration wouldn't just let him go to MN like he wanted in the first place)? how could you be so happy to see such an amazing, fun player leave the sport? If he does retire, I want him to come back as as a member of the MN Vikings coaching staff. Chilly is a douchnozzle that no one respects, but everyone in MN respects Favre as a player and leader. The Vikings organization needs that kind of leadership!Sounds like someone's a bit nervous about having Tarvaris Jackson as their starting QB.
The man has been talking about retiring since 2002. For 6 years he waffled and dicked with the Green Bay administration of "Well, maybe I'll play, maybe I won't. I'm not sure. Retiring sounds good. Kinda. But so does playing. Sorta."
I don't particularly like Ted Thompson but I can't blame him for saying "Enough is enough." and putting their money on Aaron Rodgers (who is, IMO, the best QB in the NFC North, with or without Interception Favre in the picture).
And, by God, it does feel good to not have to worry in the off-season whether your star QB is going to fvck your team over with 4 weeks left to the start of the season.

Same story as last year. Could potentially end up being the same result as last year, too.
I'm not even thinking about it - or paying attention to the (faulty) media coverage - until the team and/or Favre release a statement. I lost my faith in the media this year and don't take much of what they say for face value.
Agreed.
I'm so over Favre. He needs to make up his mind and quite with his back and forth nonesense. I agree that he is one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game but for me, you lose some of that luster when you pull all this crap. Make a decision and stick with it.
"I don't particularly like Ted Thompson but I can't blame him for saying "Enough is enough." and putting their money on Aaron Rodgers (who is, IMO, the best QB in the NFC North, with or without Interception Favre in the picture)."
You hit it right on the money. Some fantasy football books are even ranking Rodgers as a top quarterback, if not THE top quarterback for fantasy this year. As a Bears fan, I see more of the Packers as a threat than the Vikings. They are going to be extremely tough!
Re: the bolded comment... Wasn't it always someone else (the media) asking him about retirement? I don't recall HIM ever bringing it up. It's always been the media assuming that he was getting too old to play. How long is the dude supposed to put up with those questions before he starts to feel like, "well everyone is pretty much saying I should retire so I guess I'm supposed to..."
I don't know if your first comment was directed towards me, but I am not concerned about TJack being the starter. TJack took us to the wild card game two seasons ago, I'm sure after a year of playing with and being mentored by Favre that he has improved.
He's capable of being a strong QB, he just needed the leadership that our shiitty coaching staff (Chilly in particular) had failed to offer. Not to mention, TJack didn't get to call plays, and Chilly calls the shiittiest plays EVER.
Can you tell I hate the Vikes head coach?
I'm surprised that Rodgers is being rated as the #1 fantasy QB this season. Last season Packers were among the top 5 teams with the least amount of passing yards to the #1 WR. Packers usually play when the Vikes are on so I never see their games... Does he just spread the ball around to veryone, or what?
I disagree, he certainly said he was going to retire. Have you forgotten this?
From October 2002, when he was only 32 or 33 years old (i.e. well before anyone would think of him retiring due to his age):
''I am thinking about retirement. I think it's only fair. My wife and I were talking, and she was telling me what they were saying during the telecast Monday night, about how I can play until I'm 40. I was telling my wife: 'Look, one thing I know for sure is that I am playing well right now. But I don't ever want to get to a point where I'm not playing well and it forces me out.' ''
From 2005, after the loss to the Vikes at Lambeau, when he was 35:
""It's not about me anymore. My wife has gone through some difficult times and continues to. So that's going to play into my decision," Favre said. "I know if my family was here right now, they'd say, 'He's coming back. We're not going to let him go out like that.' ... But I also have to be fair to them.""
In 2006 he told a newspaper in his native Mississippi there is "no doubt" it will be his last season.
In 2008 we had the tearful goodbye:
"I know I can play but I don't think I want to," Favre said, choking with emotion in a news conference at Lambeau Field two days after he announced his retirement. "It's been a great career for me, but it's over."
In 2009 he retires....again - ?It has been a wonderful career. It?s time to leave.?
Et cetera et cetera and so forth.
