Recomend any music/marketing jobs?

Hey Ladies! I really hate to post this on here but I am having the hardest time even finding any job listings! I currently live in Memphis and I completed my internships in NYC and Memphis, so I'm not really Nashville based when it comes to the network of people I know.
I'm looking for a job in the music industry and jobs are rarely posted on the websites so I'm having a really hard time. Does anyone know of any websites for "inside" the Nashville music business scene or have any suggestions?

I would really appreciate absolutely anything.

Re: Recomend any music/marketing jobs?

  • this is what i've heard from a couple people in the industry lately. The industry is really struggling. EMI Brentwood did layoffs recently, album sales are down, etc. My neighbor who is in artist management says it is really really bad.

  • I know, right? I didn't know that EMI Brentwood did some layoffs though. It's always been kind of a struggle but with the economy the way it is, it makes it 10 times harder. Thanks for the info. on EMI.

  • I have the inside scoop since I have clients that are writers/producers/singers, etc... I typically do not like to hit them up for things like this...but I could.?

    ?

What exactly are you looking to do? What is your experience in? Do you have hands-on experience? This is a very cut-throat industry. It is very very tough to get started in.?

  • Hey Amy! I just looked at your bio and I know this sounds silly but your driveway is to die for!

As far as my experience goes, most of it has been in music marketing but I've also interned in artist management and venue management. I have really tried to pick up every volunteer opportunity that has come my way so I also have experience in publicity and event management. I really love every area of the industry so I would be happy with literally anything. I know how hard it is to get started and I am seriously one of those people that will take any job (even an assistant, although I have experience here too) to get started so that I can work my butt off and get somewhere.

I would really appreciate anything you could do to help and I really mean anything. I feel like I worked so hard during college and gave up a lot so that I could get some experience under my belt and now I'm just ready to have a "real" job.

  • My DH has worked in and around the Christian music industry for 13 years now and he says pretty much the only way to get a job is to know someone. So network like crazy!  The pp is right, the labels are struggling BIG time right now. But there are a lot of jobs out there that aren't with labels - most of our friends in the industry work for themselves doing things like PR, management, studio work, etc.  Those people often have need for someone to do grunt work for them.  It might be part time and won't pay much at all, but it's a great way to get a foot in the door, get some experience and make some contacts.

  • Yea, that's the general rule of thumb is to network, network, network. It's just so difficult from Memphis and we're trying to move but we're having a hard time because my DH hasn't been able to land an mech. engineering job there yet (plus he's got a pretty good job here so he wants something comparable). Also, most of my internships were NYC or Memphis based so my Nashville contacts are fairly limited.

  • I am very good friends with a Blues/rock musician who might be looking for someone. Not sure what he has available & if you are wanting a job with travel or not. That would be a great gig & he's an amazing person!?
  • I'm game for just about anything! How much travel are we talking, like a touring job or occasional travel?

  • Sorry I am just now getting back to you on this. This would be more of a touring gig. This guy has a crazy schedule. He is pretty much always on the road....even travels throughout Europe.?
