Tell me about St. Charles / Geneva

Husband & I are looking to stay at either Geneva or St. Charles, near either downtown area & walk around, have a nice dinner, and a decent hotel room, in room jacuzzi/ whirlpool preferred.  we prefer to be within walking distance of things to see/do like shopping & dining.

1) which town has more to offer that you can walk around to? looking for cute shops, scenery, paddleboat cruise, etc.

2) what hotel to stay that's either on the river, or within walking distance to either downtown area?

3) what romantic restaurants are recommended?

4) is there a trolley or other transportation around town, if we chose to stay at a hotel further out?

Re: Tell me about St. Charles / Geneva

  • I would suggest Geneva over St. Charles. The downtown area is really cute.  We have stayed at the Harrington Inn and Spa and it was really nice and it is right on the river.  The room we stayed in had a balcony that over looked the river and you could sit out.

Here is the link to the hotel http://www.herringtoninn.com/

  • We love Geneva.  Tons of cute shops and restaurants around.  We stayed at the Herrington Inn for our wedding night and it was great!  I highly recommend it and it's right on the Fox River.

  • There isn't public transportation, or at least any that's easy to use. ?I would recommend Geneva for a calmer, more romantic evening and St. Charles if you wanted to do a little bar hopping. ?Look on yelp, there are a ton of restaurants in the area reviewed.

The 2 towns are not far apart at all, so you could stay in one spot and go to another. ?

    ?

Besides Herrington Inn, there's Hotel Baker and Pheasant Run in St. Charles.?

  • The husband and I stayed at Pheasant Run a few weeks ago for a wedding weekend and we had a great time, very nice and romantic.  I would recommend it!
