Which Would You Do?

For favors for my sister's bridal shower I suggested we do mason jars with the dry ingredients needed for a baked good (we're going with a cooking theme since my sister went to culinary school).  Now I thought what about cake in a jar.

Which would you do?  The dry ingredients with the recipe attached or cake in a jar?

Re: Which Would You Do?

  • I'll answer from the POV as what I would like to receive as a guest and I'd prefer the cake in a jar.  I think the recipe/dry ingredients thing is cute, but honestly I barely have time to make dinner these days much less anything else so that pretty gift would probably just sit in my pantry for the next year until I tossed it.

You could do a cake in a jar and still attach the recipe for those who'd want to  make it later after they taste how good it is!

  • As a guest, I'd also prefer the cake in a jar.  While the dry ingredients with the recipe would be cute, I'd much rather have instant gratification of having it pre-cooked.  Whenever I've received the dry ingredients in a jar I've usually ended up tossing it because I've forgotten it was sitting in my pantry.

  • Ditto to the other posters. And I love the idea of attaching the recipe to the cake in a jar. I myself would love to know how you do that?!?

We have two ways of doing it.  1.) We could print stickers out and attach it to the jar.  2.) We could print out little recipe cards and thread a piece of string through a hole at the top corner and tie it around the neck of jar and then screw the lid on.

  • Sorry - I meant, how do you make a cake in a jar? Just bake it right in mason jars? how does the middle cook appropriately?

I have directions for it somewhere...I'll have to dig them up.  I'm guessing the cook time is a bit longer.
