Another Class Poll

Worst class you've ever taken?

Re: Another Class Poll

  • Torts, 1st semester of law school. I was terrified every day that I'd be called on. He never called on me, so I stayed terrified all semester. He would call on someone and let them lead the conversation down one road, and 15 minutes later, interrupt and let them know everything they'd said was wrong, and we'd all be scrambling to delete the last 15 minutes of notes. He was the closest thing I had to the scary professor in The Paper Chase. Thank God for the law school curve, too, or I'd still be trying to graduate!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Anthropology with a professor who spoke terrible English. Every sentence began with "so maybe like..." and he basically read from the text book. The only redeeming part of this class was a 10 page paper about a local ethnic grocery store. It sounded like a horrible assignment at first but I actually found a local Lebanese store/deli owner who sat down with me, told me his life story and gave me lots of free food.

  • I can't think of any that I absolutely hated off the top of my head...though I am sure I did at the time.  Some of my occupational therapy classes were redundant and I did have a couple professors that I just couldn't stand.  But, looking back, I really value the education I got and can't really think of anything that really bothered me!

  • So many bad ones... these I remember.

Statistics - with a crazy German professor who didn't speak good English at all - no one had a clue what was going on.  Test day would come and we would all just pray to survive the curve.

Tax accounting - just about the most boring class you could ever imagine and I took it as a night class - on a Thursday  - for 3 hours at a time.  Miserable.

Accounting MIS - with the professor who absolutely hated me because I took the first accounting class in the curriculum, aced all the tests while rarely showing up to class and never participating.  Bit me in the asss for MIS when class participation/attendance made up almost half the grade.

Astronomy - When they decided to hire a new professor for my semester - who decided to change the reputation of the class - formerly known as the easiest class to meet the science req.  She made participation count with pop quizzes - I learned this a week before midterms.  Crazy biitch also flew across the room on a trike that she wired some sort of chemical to and ran into the wall one day - that was at least entertaining.  It was my worst grade in college - pretty embarrassing.

  • This is embarrassing...

    Vampire Films.

I took it at night in a classroom that was nestled in a forrest of trees. It was pitch black when my roomate and I left. We both got so freaked out we quit after two weeks because we were too scared.

Trust me, this story is included in the opening chapter of my thesis about Twilight and other pop culture vampires.
