Apartments in Charlottesville

We are considering a move to Charlottesville for DH's job. Does anyone have any recommendations as to places that we might consider - that aren't entirely student housing?

TIA!

Re: Apartments in Charlottesville

  • There are lots of places away from "grounds" that are mostly non students. Students tend to live right around grounds. Do you want to live near/ walking distance to grounds (What UVA calls their campus)?  If we had stayed in Cville, we were going to move into Jefferson Ridge aparments. Avemore apartments at Pantops are also nice and away from students.  There are downtown options as well if you'd prefer the downtown scene vs. the more "suburb" feel.

We lived in UHeights while were were there and it was a mix of students/ non students, but not the nicest apartments.

My BIL has a house for rent...$1500 near the law/ business schools...just thought I'd throw that out there too :)

  • I agree with the previous post, it depends on the area where you want to live.  Charlottesville is not a huge town, so almost anything is close.  We were planning to rent at Carriage Gate apartments on 29 North, but ended up renting a townhome from them instead.  If you have more questions, please ask.  I am more than happy to help.

  • I would caution that while Jefferson Ridge is really nice, that road gets crazy intense in the bad snow. We lived at Eagle's Landing which is just down the road and man it got bad. It looked like a luxury car parking lot with all the BMWs and Land Rovers in the ditch. Some on their side. Otherwise it looks like a nice place to live and will have fewer students. Everyone else has made good reccs as well.
  • I also recommend Jefferson Ridge apartments. Another great option is to find something on the Downtown Mall. It gives you more of a city feeling and puts you in the middle of restaurants, entertainment, etc. Here are a few options down there: http://www.yorkplaceonline.com/index.cfm

If you're concerned about price, the farther you get from the University the better. 29 North also has tons of restaurants and numerous shopping centers. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!
