A federal judge has ruled California's ban on same-sex marriages unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker overturned the voter-approved ban known as Proposition 8.
Re: A bit of news...
I just found out!!!!!! Now what happens? Can I legally marry my wife?

Probably not yet. The defendants will appeal the ruling, and they've already asked Walker to stay the ruling pending the appeal. It's highly likely that will happen, because if the appeals court were to go the other way--I don't think they will, but you never know-- then any marriages performed in between would be invalidated (because that would mean that the law was valid and in effect at the time of the marriages).
Here's a really good breakdown of the ruling: http://metroweekly.com/poliglot/2010/08/judge-walker-prop-8-unconstitu.html (also on the other board)
