Locks re-keyed?

What is the best place/inexpensive place to have your locks re-keyed?

Thanks!

Re: Locks re-keyed?

  • A suggestion might be to forgo having the locks rekeyed and just buy new locks.  Its fairly expensive to have them rekeyed.

We ran into a situation recently where we would need this done and it was outrageous.  We ended up going to Home Depot and got 4 locks (2 deadbolts and 2 handle locks) all in the same package for $30.  They came w/ 4 keys that are all the same and work all of the locks.  It took us 20 mins to install all 4 items.  GL!

  • Last year when we bought our house we wanted to get the locks rekeyed for safety reasons but also because all of the locks had different keys and the previous owners didn't know which key went where except for the front door.  We went to Larry Lock in Deer Park and for 7 locks it was about 250.  For us it was worth it because they were all different doors and to get different handles and it was just easier this way.

  • I agree on the DIY. We just moved into our first home and we changed the locks with a set from Lowe's for $30 and all the keys are the same. It's great and was very simple to do.
