Re: mexico all inclusive???

  • We were looking at going this summer, but with moving it didn't happened.  My BIL & SIL have been there a couple times.  Here's what she sent me when we were looking...

"For our honeymoon we went to the Mayan Riviera and stayed at Aventura Spa Palace. I think there are several places in the Mayan Riviera that are nice. Then in May '07 we went to Cozumel and stayed at Allegro Cozumel; it was nice, but definitley not as nice as our honeymoon, but we got a really good deal. I like Cozumel b/c we rented a car and drove around the island...that was fun! The Mayan Riviera is really nice too if you can find a good deal. Cancun is nice too, but I feel that it is very americanized, but the beaches are really nice, but sometimes can be crowded. So...it kind of depends on what you were wanting to do? I really like Mexico, b/c the flight is short so you don't spend your entire vacation getting there, plus you can find cheap trips. Check out funjet.com...I get emails from then all the time about deals."

  • I've been 3 times and my fav is Excellence Riviera Cancun.  It is not actually in Cancun, but Puerto Moreles which is about 10 mi south of Cancun.  (so you really don't have the whole party/Cancun feel)  It is a super luxurious resort.  Adults only.  Awesome food, good beach, great facilities.  Plenty of free activities to do at the hotel and beach.  The only thing that I think might be a downside is that it is several miles from Cancun and Playa so you don't have a big town super close if you want to go do any shopping.  Puerto Moreles is a tiny town.  (both would be a pretty short cab ride though)

My 2nd fave is probably where we went just this summer.  The Royal in Playa del Carmen.  It is right smack in the middle of downtown Playa so easy access to lots of shopping and restaurants if you want to get away from the hotel a bit.  Excellent beach and facilities.  I did not think the food or service was quite as good here, but by no means bad.

I have also been to Iberostar Parisio Beach and it was good but hard for me to rate b/c we were there right after a hurricane.  I think the Iberostar's are great hotels overall with good service.

If I were you, I would spend some time on trip advisor reading some reviews.  Another place that came highly recommended to us is El Dorado Suites.  I would definately do an adults only, it makes a big difference I think.  Also price out different days.  It can vary widely in the winter depending on what days you go.  We went over xmas break and there was a huge price increase if you were there on xmas eve or day.  Let me know if you have any questions, I have done lots of research and have lots of experience in the area.

  • About 5yrs ago I went to the dreams in cancun. It was an awesome ai although don't remember all the details. I hated that it was in cancun though, if we left the hotel we always did trips to go else where. My favorite place around there was isla mujeres (sp?) beautiful and authentic. I've had friends stay there many ti es over the years.

  • We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon last December - it was fantastic.  Adults only, which was a huge plus.  It's outside of Cancun a bit, but a short cab ride away if you need to go into town for anything.  As PP mentioned, we loved Isla Mujeres (quick ferry ride away from the resort).  Dec. was a great time to go - it wasn't too crowded, so no waiting at the restaurants, etc.  I loved the spa there, too.  I would go back in a heartbeat.

  • I stayed at the Iberostar hotels in Playa Del Carmen in May and was not impressed.

It was very "Disney" and too themey for me, not at all authentic - they are a German based resort.

    The service was horrible.

I can't rate the food, I had morning sickness and everything was gross but the ice cream. Eat as much Mexican Ice Cream as you can - YUM!

The room was nice, and the greenery was very lusch. Those are really the only nice things I can say.

Dreams resorts always get good review from friends.

ETA: I have pictures on my FB profile if you want to see them. The water down in that area (Cozumel, Cancun, Isla Mujeras, Playa) is BEAUTIFUL! We went out of the resort for snorkelling which was amazing and the best part of our trip. The area is great! I just wasn't impressed with that particular line of hotels.

  • We went to the Royal in Cancun 3 years ago and loved it.
