I know a few others have been discussing this lately, and DH just asked me what I want to do for ours (7 years). He suggested flying to Seattle, which we love, on a Friday and coming home late the following Tuesday. Not sure if I want to be that far away (multiple flights) from Caleb; we've left him overnight several times, but always in driving distance.
Also, I don't necessarily want to blow a ton of mileage points on our flights, though I don't really know what we'd use them for otherwise. His other suggestions were Boston (we went once when I was pregnant), or Niagara Falls (never been).
Our anniversary is in September. What's a cool place to (briefly) visit in the fall?
Re: 5 days, anniversary trip, where to go?
We are boring...we always go up to Bay Harbor for our anniversary weekend!
I would think somewhere that you could do a fall color tour would be fun and romantic. Niagara is fun too!!
Traverse City is our default.
He just said "I'm just trying to get creative here."

Dan came up with Miami last year instead of Bay Harbor...
I'm SOOOO the Miami type right? LOL!!
This is why I'm hoping the Fl Marlins (baseball team) is sold and moves to a different city at some point in time. I really have no interest in visiting Miami. I would feel like a fish out of water.
We did our Honeymoon in Toronto in late October. It was beautiful, and the Falls were only an hour drive from there.
That would be my suggestion.
The Smokies...
Ok, this isn't all that exciting, but we were very suprised at how beautiful Nashville, IN was. That region is called the Little Smokies. The state park is gorgeous. They have a nice lodge there.
You could easily spend 2 days in town, maybe treat yourself to a massage. Go go Bloomington for a day. Or you could do 2-3 nights in Nashville and 1-2 nights in Indy.
There was also that resort I stayed in in Lake Geneva, WI. I think it was called like Orange Lake resort.
B and I went to Niagara Falls for our anniversary trip last year during the last weekend of September. It was a bit too cold to do all of the outdoor activities that we wanted to, however it was unseasonably cool at the time. Hopefully the weather would be nice for you, especially if you went earlier in September. We also stopped in Toronto on the way home to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I think that if you had five days, you could split your time between Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Niagara Falls and it would make a great trip.
If you'd like any more information on our trip, let me know. We loved the hotel that we stayed at, and I have some recommendations on tours and other things to do.
I also think that Suze's suggestion to go to Montreal is a good one. I really want to go there someday!
The Toronto/Niagara suggestions are good, too. Toronto would also make a good add-on to a Montreal trip. You could drive there, spend a night or two and continue driving to Montreal or take the VIA rail.
Montreal is going to have a bit more of a European flair than Toronto. Even after visiting Paris, I still feel like Montreal has a similar feel.
Oh, that's cool.
