Moving to CA!

Hello ladies!

After months of speculation we are moving to San Diego!  Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for a place to live?  My husband will be working north of Miramar.  We are late 20's with a dog.  We are looking for at least one bedroom with a possible garage (we are moving from a 1800 sq ft house).  Also, does anyone work for companies that are hiring?  My husband has a job, but I am on the lookout.  I currently work for a large retail company in the Midwest as an analyst.

 Thanks for the help ladies!

Re: Moving to CA!

  • Where exactly will your husband be working.  North of Miramar is pretty vague---its a big area :)

What is your budget for rent?  The further you get away from the coast, the lower rental prices will be.

Do you have a small dog or a big dog?  If you have a big dog, you might be better off renting from a private party than an apartment/condo complex.  Most complexes are cat friendly and will take small dogs.  Pet deposits range from $250-$500 at most complexes.

  • We live downtown & love it. All the places are really really dog friendly, with lots of dog parks around. We commute up the 5 to Del Mar area, not a bad commute at all. Not 100% sure where Miramar area is...I think before that?

Downtown you'd be looking at $1600 for a 1 bedroom and $2K for a 2 bedroom. Fun area for late 20's...that's why we loved it! FUn bars, restaurants, ball park is walking distance, farmer's markets, etc.

    Good luck!!

Miramar refers to MCAS Miramar which is located between the 15/163 and the 805 on the south side of Mira Mesa.  If you have ever driven the 15 from San Diego to the Poway area, you drive right by the runway and can see all the military transport landing.

North of Miramar can mean a nasty commute if you live in inland north county and have to travel south.

  • Well welcome to San Diego! I live in North Park and commute to the miramar area each day and it is about a 25 min. drive.  Since rush hour is heading south in the morning and north in the evening it is a nice commute. I would not reccommend living north of where you are working because it will be heavy traffic commuting to work.  Good luck with the move!!!
  • Congrats on moving to San Diego! My brand new husband and I have loved it here! We are in Ocean Beach which is extremely Dog friendly! (you can even take your dog to get breakfast/lunch with you). I've lived all over San Diego but my favorite places so far to live are Mission Valley, North Park/Hillcrest and Ocean Beach. I don't usually suggest going too far south of downtown. I love central San Diego! It's safe, it's fun and it's nice!
