Recommend your vacuum

We need a new vacuum. For some reason, we have the worst luck with vacuum cleaners. We have two cats plus I have long hair and I seem to shed just as much as they do.

I'd like to keep it under $200...

Thanks Big Smile

Re: Recommend your vacuum

  • I don't have it, but I've heard great things about the Shark vacuum.  I've heard it's as good as a dyson, but way cheaper.  Target had them on sale for $159 or $179 with regular price $199

  • It's over your budget, but well worth it especially if you have animals - the Dyson Animal rocks.  My mom, sister and I all have it (and we all have animals) and love it!

  • We have a Bissell Lift-Off (not sure of the model number--it's from several years back, but they do have a newer version that has "pet" in the name), and it's worked really well for us.  It's affordable (<$200), has held up really well, performs great, is bagless... the lift-off feature is especially nice if you have stairs to vacuum... so much easier than trying to use a full upright vac on the stairs, and much better suction than the little hand-held vacuum we used to use.

We didn't do any research when purchasing it--it was an emergency buy when our former vacuum died two hours before house guests were arriving!  But we've been very pleased with it.

  • We have a Dyson animal also, and love it. We also have a hand held shark that has a motorized brush attachment, that we love also. We use the shark for the dog hair on the furniture and small jobs. Both are awesome.

I AGREE! My dad asked us if he could get us this as part of our wedding gift, of course I said yes but was kind of "whatever" about it. This turned out to be the best wedding gift we got BY FAR! IMO it's definately worth saving up for. I don't have to move my furniture, it's light, and very effective. Pretty much in love with it.

  • I love my Dyson Animal.  I have had it for 5 years with no issues and it works awesome.  I got a really good deal on it at Kohls.  It was on sale for $395 and I had a 30% off coupon.  I got it for $275.

  • I had a Dyson ball....then the Kirby guy came to my house and vacuumed with the Dyson for a long time in a few square foot section. Then he vacuumed for a moment in one place just to show me how to turn it on and lower it....yuck the amount of stuff he vacuumed up! Then he vacuumed the whole room with the Kirby and shampooed it.....I was in love and sold. It's quite a bit out of the price range, but it's less than that...per month anyways...

  • We also have the Dyson Animal!  I am completely in love with it and it's the only vacuum so far that's stood up to my two shedding dogs.  It's lasted waaaaay longer than any other vacuum we've had making it well worth the money.  We got ours at BB&B and used a 20% off coupon.
