Any Suggestions -

So we registered for some lovely knives with C&B, totally expecting we'd end up having to buy them after the wedding for ourselves.  But we did get one as a wedding gift.  Before I had the chance to tell Mr. Feef NOT to put this lovely greatest knife in the dishwasher, he did.  He put it in the dishwasher the day we left for our HM and naturally it was there in the dishwasher drying for over a week.  Now it's got rust spots and I'm devastated.  Anyone know of a way to save my favorite knife?

Re: Any Suggestions -

  • I"m not sure.  Our knife set we got at my shower also has rust spots on them.  After I noticed them, I made it a point to not put them in the dishwasher, but to wash and dry immediately after use.  This has helped alot with preventing any more rust spots.  So.. I guess that would be my advice to you.  I also did try writing to the company, but never heard back from them!  GL!!

  • This happened w/ one of our nice knives. The person watching our house while we were on our hm didn't realize you couldn't put the knife in the dishwasher. I rewashed the knife and used a small scrubby pad and the rust went away (very very minor scratches from the pad, you have to look for them). I've never seen it again and the knife is almost 4 1/2 yrs old now.

  • This is random, and untested by me - but didn't I hear somewhere that coca-cola removes rust?  Try soaking it?
  • I'll have to give it a shot.

To be fair Mr. Feef is pretty sorry about it and feels bad and now is asking about everything he puts in the dishwasher.

I'll try my scrub brush first and if that doesn't work, coca cola...and if that doesn't work, I'll just live with it.

This is why we don't have nice things in our house.

  • My Furi knives still have a couple rust spots on them and I do hand wash them and they have never been in the dishwasher. I've been using them for about a year and a half now, not every knife has rust, but a couple do. They are the ones I use the most. I think it has to do with our water. We have town water too.
  • try scrubbing them with a paste made of baking soda and a bit of water.
  • you should never wash a knife in the dishwasher...I get reprimanded all the time for tossing them in the dishwasher.  I can't help it, I'm lazy!
