Alger Heighter/SE siders

When you go to the new Meijer, let me know what you think. I was just talking to my CW and he was cracking up because I said the exact same things his wife said. The layout is a bit different, due to the smaller size. The thing I can't get back is the freezer and dairy section. It is in the strangest spot, like it was an after thought.  I'm sure I will get used to it and it is 100 times better than the old store.

Re: Alger Heighter/SE siders

  • MH and I were in there the other night creating the balloon arch for their grand opening and noticed the exact same thing and couldn't help but think it was strange. Huge improvement though!

  • DH does store support for Meijer (basically makes sure the registers don't explode) and he said this is a new layout they're trying. It's designed so you basically "circuit" the store to do your shopping.

We were in there last night and I agree it felt "off" but that's just cuz it's not what we're used to. It would be interesting to see if it makes any sort of difference.

  • I have yet to go, but DH went last night real quick and came home and said, "It is weird, I am not impressed"

We will see how I feel once I do my first shopping trip.  I am sure it can't be worse than what it was - they could only go up from there!

  • I wonder if the cement floors is a "green thing" -using less materials or a "this is the ghetto Meijer, they don't need a real floor".  Brian made a comment about the floor as soon as we walked in.

Overall, I do like the smaller store. I think will will help cut down on the time of my shopping trips. Espececially if I forget something, I don't have to go all the way back to the store. I think with it being such a smaller store, it is harder to separate food from housewares and other general merchandise. I just think all of grocery dept should be together.  There are a few quirky things but not enough to have me drive past that one and go to another Meijer like we used to.

  • There's a Meijer near my house that was remodeled and the layout is SO strange. The clothes are in the middle and the food goes all the way around the edges with the dairy/frozen right in the middle of the store. It makes no sense to me and I hate shopping there... then again, I don't like change :o)

This sounds like our layout. I will bring you the map when I come visit you in Marshall. Big Smile
