ER/Urgent Care

Where would you go if needed?  We live close to Tanasbourne.

Jeff has a worse than usual migraine, and I'm anxious.  I don't know where to take him if we have to go somewhere.

Re: ER/Urgent Care

  • Have you ever checked out Zoomcare? I know a friend of mine used them for immunizations and they use fixed prices and can usually fit you in. I have no ideas about opening times though. What urgent cares in your area are covered by your insurance? Can you look it up on your ins. website? I believe there is a Provident urgent care near Cornell and 185th?

Sorry he's not feeling well. I hope he feels better soon.

  • Thanks Esther!  FB friends suggested Legacy (Emanuel & Meridian Park) as well as St. Vincent's.  We have Cigna, and one of the people that suggested St. V & Emanuel has the same insurance plan us, so I think we're covered at any of them.  Not that I can tell for sure by the crappy insurance website, but whatever.
  • I just hate that a lot of Urgent Care places are closed at night. We recently switched to DH's ins. which is really great but the co-pay for urgent care is $15 and for an ER visit it's $100 so if it's not too urgent I try to not go to the ER.
  • Yeah, I'm surprised so many of them close at night, too.  It seems like they were always open like the ERs were when we were in Boston.  I don't think we have co-pays for anything anymore.  Jeff changed our plan after we were here for a year and had a rough idea of what we'd be spending on a normal, yearly basis.  I guess this way worked out cheaper, barring anything serious popping up.  And if anything serious pops up, we'll still probably end up paying about the same.

I think his Imitrex finally kicked in, so I think we're OK now.  *crosses fingers*

  • That's good! I'm totally grateful for our insurance though. I used to have to pay a lot more a month than we do now and the co-pays were even higher too. That's good that you have no co-pay at all.
  • I've been lucky enough to never have been without insurance, even though at times it has sucked with high co-pas and poor coverage.  I can't imagine how stressful it must be for people who can't find coverage or who can't afford it.
  • I'd just call the # on my insurance card. in my experience insurance companies will be annoying as heck unless you go to their preferred place, which might be pretty far from you. but, if it's bad, head to the closest ER. Worst case they end up charging you a bit more or you have to contest coverage (or contest a few times), but hey, it's better than worrying.

  • Em, has Jeff ever tried taking Imitrex + Aleve (at the same time)?  That's essentially what Treximet is and it worked well for me.

I can't help with the ERs in your area, but the hospital I recently went to was a Legacy hospital and everything/everyone was awesome.  I, sadly, have no idea what the bill will look like.

  • He usually does Imitrex + Tylenol.  He used to do Aleve, and then I had an allergic reaction to it.  Stick out tongue  So now, for some reason, he's decided that Tylenol is a good enough replacement for the Aleve.  I buy it for him now and then when I remember and he uses it.  But otherwise he just steals my Tylenol.

I keep hearing good things about Legacy, so I'll try and figure out if we're covered there for the future.

  • Legacy and St. Vincent's are both good with migraines. I've landing in both a few times and I've never had a bad experience. The Urgent Care's are hit and miss on the hours in my experience.
