Hotels in Chicago

Hi! MH and I will be visiting Chicago in the next week ... we're driving from New Jersey.

We need a place to stay that isn't outrageously expensive. We're looking for something that's under about $150 per night, if possible ... we found the Ohio House Motel and that seems decent. Any reviews on this place? Any other suggestions?

 Thanks!

Re: Hotels in Chicago

  • look up deals on expedia, hotels.com, etc. Sometimes they won't tell you name of hotel, but you can't go wrong w streeterville area. Allerton is running a great sale this wknd on hotels.com for $120 standard. Great great location. Warning: parking is insane! Consider parking at midway or ohare longterm and take the l train/walk/taxi while you're here. L train is very convenient, espec to/from airports.
  • If I'm reading this correctly and you're planning to come the weekend of the 14th, your best bet is to book something through Expedia or Price Line. That weekend is the weekend of the air and water show, so there are a LOT of people coming to visit.

Parking at most downtown hotels will run between $20 and $40 per night, so take the PP's suggestion and drive to one the airports and leave your car in a lot there and take the train in.

What are you planning to do in the City? Knowing that will make it easier to make a hotel rec.

  • fyi my sister just booked at allerton next week for less than $100nt at gtahotels.com. I don't know much about that hotel except it's in great location and prices are more than 2x internet rate if you were to call and book.
  • It appears fine--nothing fancy, but doesn't look like a no-tell motel either. It has parking, which will be a huge plus for you.
  • From what I hear, it's bare bones but clean.  Ohio St is busy, so I wouldn't stay there if I was a light sleeper!
  • I would personally use priceline name your own price.   My family usually always does this- and gets downtown hotels for $50-$75 a night, for 3-4 star hotels.    Check www.betterbidding.com to see what recent bids have gotten what hotels.

Most recently my sisters got the Holiday in at Merchandise Mart for $75, and my MOH got the Hilton Towers/Chicago Hilton for $80 (all for weekend of July 9-10)

     Good luck!
