Any ideas on keeping bugs away?

I want to add some color to my landscaping by planting some flowers around our shrubs and dwarf spruces, but, I hate bees. Are there any suggestions (other than not buying flowers at all) on what we can do to keep away the bees? Anything we can put on them?  H's ex-MIL said to put soapy water on the spruces to keep the bugs away & that has been working so far.  Just not sure if that would work for blooms as well.

  • Bees are actually needed to pollinate flowers, fruits, veggies, etc. I've never had a bee problem, I do have a wasp problem though. If you don't want to deal with the bees, you're going to have to forgo planting lots of flowers.

Well how do you feel about plastic flowers?

    No bees, no flowers.

  • If you don't bother the bees, they won't bother you.  I have bees crawl on my hands without incident while I'm deadheading.  It's only when you start swatting at them that they get angry.
