Shark steam mop?

Anyone have it? Pluses/minues? Does it really clean? I heard it did well on tile and wood; not grout. Haven't heard about linoleum and that's whats in the house in all the wet areas. Swiffer doesn't even begin to cut it. We're talking tracked in dried dirt and stuff from spills. I make Dh do those areas. I might consider doing them again if the steam mop works well.

Re: Shark steam mop?

  • Pluses - Really quick and easy (no hauling around/changing buckets of water).  No chemicals.  Machine washable pads.

Minuses - On some surfaces (laminant, wood), it tends to leave streak marks.  For best results, you'll want to follow the grain and keep an eye on the pads and flip/ replace them as soon as they look dirty.  Pumping the handle to generate steam drives some people crazy, but other brands don't require this.  Seems obvious, but I was surprised by how hot I get using it.

General - IMO, it's cleaning capabilities are equivalent to regular mopping.  This means, you still have to sweep your floors first, and it's not as good as a hands-and-knees scrub.  It doesn't get every single food spill in the kitchen, so I go back over anything remaining with a sponge and some dish soap.  Wood still needs occasional wax floor polish.  If you're worried about disinfection, there are other brands of steam mops that get hot enough to truly sanitize.  I picked the Shark for the flippable pads and long cord.

Check on the Cleaning Board for more reviews and info about other steam mop brands.

  • Don't waste your money.  We have linoleum and it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface so to speak.  It sucks.
  • I have hard wood and tile in my home and I love it.  It is not the best in grout but for hard wood I LOVE it ... I am not sure of linoleum.  If you get it at BBB they have an awesome return policy (at least they use to, I would double check first) but if you try something and you don't like it you can return it
  • We tried it on hardwood and tile and I wasn't impressed at all.  We returned it.

  • Okay I have terrible White linoleum floors that I couldn't get the black speckles out of to save my life!

I ordered a Rubba Sweeper from the Flylady.net website!! I LOVE IT!! No more black spots! BEWARE Her products are addictive!

But I washed the floor with regular Mr. Clean all purpose cleaner and still cant believe the difference! And I didnt have to kill myself either which is Fabulous!

  • I think it does a decent job on wood, but sucks on linoleum.  Just my opinion.
  • (First of all- shout out!)

I was so excited to get mine in the mail and have been kind of disappointed. I use it on my linoleum floors, and they do get clean, but it takes a lot longer than I was hoping for.

  • I'm so glad I read this! We have this gross looking laminate floor in our kitchen, and I agree that the Swiffer sucks.  I was about to put the Shark on our gift registry for our wedding, but now I think I'll keep looking around.

  • I actually did get someone to post the various reviews and now i can't find it. i think the best one they found was either Eureka or Hoover. It was basically and independent testing. They said which was the best for regular floors, had the most steam time, needed to refill h2o, temp, etc. I REALLY need to refind that review.
