I am a terrible person - help!

So I thought i was super dilegent in recording all wedding gifts recieved so I could write the thank you notes properly.....but somehow i missed one! ugh, i feel so, so, so, bad but I have no idea if my grandmother (yes, i know i'm a terrible person) gave us a gift.  If she did, it would have been a check that somehow i didnt write down before cashing.  I kept all of our cards and didnt come across one from her, so its possible she didnt give us one - or its possible that i lost it Sad    i feel so bad

either way, i need some advice on how to write the thank you card without thanking her for a gift, but also not making it obvious that i'm not thanking her for a gift, ya know?

suggested wording?

Re: I am a terrible person - help!

  • Any chance you could look back in your bank account and account for all the others, thereby knowing whether or not she gave you a gift? Or is there a way to (carefully) ask around the family to find out? Unfortunately, I don't have any wording suggestions... GL!

We xeroxed the front of our wedding checks so we could remember what we'd deposited... Maybe the bank could give you something similar? (Of course, they might want to charge you an arm and a leg for that.)

  • Oh, and don't feel bad. Things happen. Especially with wedding craziness, and I think people know that. (Well, I hope people know that! We just realized that between the two of us, some thank you notes fell through the cracks [read: never got written or sent]. And our wedding was 6 months ago! We also just recently found a check that we forgot to deposit-- we're still trying to figure out what to do about that one...)

  • There is a good possibility that the bank can give you scans of the checks you've deposited - I know that mine records scans of all the checks that I write because I can see them in my account online. So that is worth a shot.

How about your mom or dad?  Would your grandmother have spoken with them about what she was giving you?  It's worth asking them - they could know.

And definitely don't feel bad!  It happens!  We had one gift that we couldn't figure out for weeks - it had no card attached.  We had to do process of elimination, and there were a few people left that it could be! So then we had to do some sneaky asking around and assume that guest X didn't give us anything and guest Y was the one that gave us mystery gift.  We referenced the gift in the Thank You to guest Y (good friend of ours) and they never came back and said "That wasn't from me!" so we assume to this day it was guest Y.

With all those gifts and cards, there is bound to be some confusion!
