You need to know that vines can grow BIG and they grow notoriously fast. Some are highly invasive and will quickly go from being cute, to breathtaking, to 'OMG WTF happened'.

Most vine like sun, but some are shade tolerant. Determine whether you want an evergreen vine or not, and determine how hardy (cold tolerant) the vine is for your zone. After that, it's a matter of flower color, what type of bird/insect you are trying to attract.

I don't know what zone you live in, or your criteria, so I'll hold off on specific recommendations.

  • They can also pull down or damage a fence.  This happened at my old house and is starting to happen at my new house.  With a wood fence, they attach to the face of the wood and damage it.  With a chainlink type fence, the weight of the vine can literally pull it down between the posts.
