My post for the day.. interesting weddings.

What is the weirdest or worst wedding you have ever been to?

How many weddings have you been to that had a pig pickin'?

Have any truly awesome (and this is said with sarcasm) bridesmaid dresses you have worn?

What is the farthest you've traveled to attend a wedding?

Weiredest- No offense but it was a Jehovah's witness wedding.  It was loooong and the minister spent much of the time doing what I would consider marriage counseling, and also saying what all the duties the wife had towards her husband.  In addition a bridesmaid passed out during the ceremony.

PigPickin'- I haven't been to any weddings or rehersals that involved them, but I've been to plenty for other reasons.

Bridesmaid dresses- I've had plenty.  From teal lace to black and white polka dots and many, many in between.  I can't say alot about others choices, hey my BM dresses were tangerine.  Big Smile

The farthest- Either Cleveland OH or Boston MA (my limited geography skills prevent me from knowing which is further)

  • Weirdest- I grew up catholic so I am used to long catholic wedding ceremonies, but my uncle got remarried for the third time about 8 years ago and they had a full catholic mass wedding. It was over an hour long and during the ceremony there was a line to the effect of "Should God choose to bless this marriage with children..." Well, they were both in their 50s at the time and have children from previous marriages that were grown adults. So couldn't they have left that part of the ceremony out? It was definitely odd.

PigPickin'- I have never been to a pig pickin wedding or wedding reception, but we had a pig pickin rehearsal dinner. I wanted to accommodate our out of town guests who traveled really far to be with us for the wedding so we had about 50 people there and it is a great way to feed a large crowd!

Bridesmaid dresses- I've had a few. None of them were too terrible, but I still have never worn any of them more than once.

The farthest- England. That is where DH is from and we went over for the wedding for a buddy of his that had come over for ours. He and his wife actually got engaged in NC on the beach the week after our wedding, so it was kind of cool to be there for their big day!

  • What is the weirdest or worst wedding you have ever been to? It wasn't weird but it was the worst.  A highschool buddy of DH's got married and it was was a full on catholic ceremony.  2.5 hours!!!! The funniest part was that we've known this guy since we were both like 12 and had no idea he was catholic. Also, it was clear the brides family had money and liked to show it which was odd to me but the entire reception looked like pepto vomited everywhere!!!

How many weddings have you been to that had a pig pickin'? None but I've been to bbq's with them lol

Have any truly awesome (and this is said with sarcasm) bridesmaid dresses you have worn?None of mine have been too bad.

What is the farthest you've traveled to attend a wedding?hmmm we went to a wedding in upstate PA, mountains of NC, but we will be attending one next year in upstate NY.

  • What is the weirdest or worst wedding you have ever been to?

We only go to about 2 weddings per year....and they're all pretty standard

How many weddings have you been to that had a pig pickin'?

None, though my cousin's came close, he served bbq

Have any truly awesome (and this is said with sarcasm) bridesmaid dresses you have worn?

I've only been in one wedding, the dress is actually something I could wear again

What is the farthest you've traveled to attend a wedding?

10 hours, northern tip of PA, near NY/Canada
  • What is the weirdest or worst wedding you have ever been to? The weirdest was my husbands old boss, he got remarried and the bride pulled up to the wedding in a mini van, hopped out and went down the aisle and they got married at a light house over the water, but no one turned the fog horn off so every 10 seconds it would blast, finally the minister just sped through it and ended the ceremony. The cake was a lighthouse and it tipped over during the reception, the brides dress was half unzipped (like zipped at top then bulged open then zipped again) and they had a cd player with Jimmy Buffet playing and it kept skipping over and over "margarita ville..ville..ville..ville" it was horrible.

How many weddings have you been to that had a pig pickin'? None

Have any truly awesome (and this is said with sarcasm) bridesmaid dresses you have worn? Only 2 two and they were both OK.

What is the farthest you've traveled to attend a wedding?Hmm.. just to NYC from here.

  • I didn't have time to answer my own questions earlier, I wrote this up just before a meeting.

Weirdest/worst: Its kind of a tie between the one that didn't have enough seats and a too small reception hall, and my cousin's who had hers behind the factory her husband worked for and the reception was in the cafeteria.

I've been to two pick pickins, one was done REALLY well, and the other one was umm well, a pig that wasn't enough food for the guests and the sides looked like they were made  by the church ladies.

The one wedding I was in had horrible dresses, they had button on straps that popped off every time you tried to do anything but just stand, and the top was all lace.

Farthest I traveled was to Northeast Ohio for my cousin's wedding. And I'll be traveling there again  next year for my sister's.

Sala - Boston is farther than Cleveland, I grew up an hour south of Cleveland and I have a good friend from the Boston area and she always trumps me on amount of time it takes to drive home. =)

  • Weirdest/worst?: There was one wedding where I hated the food so much that we ended up stopping and getting pizza afterwards, but I still had a good time at it.  The weirdest is coincidence: three of my bridesmaids were married the third Saturday of September in consecutive years.  All three of them had major natural disasters occur--the first was a Hurricane and power wasn't restored to the Inn until the day of the wedding (and her cake fell because of the heat), the second was a tornado--my first, the day before the wedding, and the third was also a Hurricane, the ceremony site was literally underwater and we had no water at the brides house as we were getting ready.  We went to the groom's parents house to shower that morning.

No pig pickings to speak of.

BM dresses?  My cousin (I really ove her but this was a gaffe) had us wear a dress that we all hated.  It had rouching (?) in all the wrong places--even the thin girls looked heavy and the thicker girls looked like cows.   I kept "moo-ing" through my smile. Oh, and I'm also OVER wearing lavender at weddings (3 times is too many!).

Farthest I've traveled?  LA for Dh's brother.  But time-wise, getting to Lake Tahoe from GSO was the longest trip because we had to make 3 connections instead of just 2.

  • Weirdest/Worst? Hmmm, I've been to a few that didn't have great ceremony or reception but nothing that I can think of that qualifies as weird.

Pig Pickin'? None, but my cousin served pizza and beer at her reception.  It was awesome (completely non sarcastic)!  It was their favorite restaurant and fit them so well!

Bridesmaid dresses?  I've never been a bridesmaid

    Farthest?  Guatemala
