F/U to Car question from yesterday re: title

First off...

Thank you SO much for all your insight into the Cobalt and especially the Ford Focus yesterday. Very helpful.

DH and I have found an '09 Hyundai Elantra that we're veerrrrry interested in and will be going to check out this week.

Question in regards to my Saturn's car title. I found it! And that was a major feat in and of itself. It has me as the owner, but under my maiden name and very old address. I bought the car back in '03 before I even was with DH. Does the fact that it's under my maiden name matter? And old address? Should I get that changed first before going to check out this other car?

I'm trying to find all this stuff out on the MN DMV website, but I think my brain is fried and I'm just not comprehending some of the legal jargon on there today.

It's my bday and my mind is occupied elsewhere. HA!

First - no clue on the title questions - sorry. I don't even know where our's are - for either car . I figure I'll just have to get "new" ones from the DMV . . . so Bravo to you for at least having them!

Second - and most importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!  A new car makes an excellent birthday present!

I've been meaning to change the name on my car title but I keep forgetting.  I know that you do need your marriage license in order to do so.

You should be able to sign your married name, and bring a copy of your marriage license and that should be fine.

No idea on the title stuff - you could probably call the dealer and they would know what they need.

But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!  I hope the day is fantastic and wonderful!

I just traded my car in on something new.

My title was in my maiden name and had our old address on it, and I didn't have to do a thing. I just signed it over to the dealership and nothing else was said. I would consider maybe bringing in your marriage cert. just as a precaution, but don't think you will need it.

When I sold my car that was under my maiden name, all the DMV cared about was me having the actual title, the name on it didn't seem to matter...  You should be fine.

I traded in my previous car for the one I have now, and all I needed to do was show them a copy of my marriage license with my title.  They just made a copy of it, and I signed over the title with my married name.  HTH!

Happy Birthday!! And, I agree with PP's that you should be fine as long as you bring your marriage license along with your title when you sell. GL!

Don't worry about the title. I was at the DMV for something else and asked and they said I could pay a fee to change my name on the title but to not waste my money. The title is still valid even in your maiden name. Bring your marriage certificate just in case but it's pretty common that people get married and move so don't worry about it.
