WWYD?

Referencing back to the new neighbors across the street with their piece of crap parked out on the street...not moving for a few months and up on a jack since this past weekend.  Would you complain?  If so, to whom?  Or would you just keep your mouth shut (keeping in mind I don't know them and not getting a good vibe from their general direction)?

Re: WWYD?

  • You can complain to the City of Toledo.  Someone will come out, take a look, probably take a picture, decide if it is an eye sore or not, send a letter to the owners demanding they do something or face a fine in so many days if it isn't removed.

How do I know you can do this??  neighbors complained about the appearance of my grandparents home and all the junk they had laying in the yard.  He got a letter about it that if it wasn't taken care of in x amount of days he would be fined a certain amount and face jail time.  I believe my dad even had to take my grandpa to court over it, they needed an extension because obviously my grandpa is 90 years old, in bad health and cannot do anything himself.  My dad had to do it all.  So anyways, if you are that annoyed with the car, complain to the city.

    Abandoned or junk vehicles:
Help reduce the blight in your neighborhood by reporting abandoned junk vehicles on city streets and vacant lots. A friend of mine who is a 911 dispatcher for Toledo just posted the step by step instructions on my page.  My only thing is I'm pretty much alone for the next week and a half yet, I've already shared my concern about being gone for a few days...I don't know how/if they'd retaliate.

  • If you're that concerned, wait until you get back from your weekend and then call. I think you should absolutely call also. I understand you don't know them and all, but that doesn't mean that you have to trust them. I go by the "you never know someone's situation" idea, but come on; you can't leave a car up on a jack in the middle of a residential neighborhood on a city street. If it was sitting on the property (driveway/yard), maybe it would be different.

DH called the city and complained earlier this year about our neighbors parking on their yard like hillbillies. I think they got a letter or notification b/c they stopped doing it.

  • I'm kinda tempted to possibly start with their landlord.  We're friends with some of his previoius tenants and could get that from him.  Thoughts, opinions on that?

Again, I'm not doing anything this week.  I really don't want to come home to find the house ransacked or windows smashed or whatever.

  • Do you think they would know it was you if you made a complaint to the city?  I don't think they would give out that information on the notice to the offender.  But if you think they would suspect it was you, maybe you should wait.

  • You can definitely complain anonymously, but if you're still nervous you could wait.

You could try the landlord, but depending on what kind of LL s/he is, it may get you nowhere.  If it's a good LL though, I'm sure they'd appreciate being made aware of craptastic tenants.  They could be destroying the inside of the property as well if they have such little regard for the outside...
