Hey Ladies! We are looking at moving to maybe the Lakeville or Prior Lake area. Anyone know anything about these school districts? Or where I can find information on them? and honestly...what do you look for in a school?
TIA!
Re: MN Schools
Prior Lake is Rich-Kids. Snobbby!! Spoiled. stuff like that.
Lakeville has a brand new high school- But lots of drugged out kids.
Just my opinion ( BUT NOTE I GRADUATED FROM A RIVAL SCHOOL TO BOTH )
Here is a link for school report cards. New ones should come out around state fair time. I would go visit different schools (they should offer a tour) and ask questions about programs available, student to teacher ratios, education of teachers,... Are you looking at an elementary school?

WOW
The reality is that you're going to find drugs, snobs, and every other type of person you can think of at every school.
I can't speak of Prior Lake so I'm not going to make some crazy accusations and leave it at that. Instead I'll tell you what I *do* know about Lakeville. We live in Farmington, right next to Lakeville. I have subbed often in the Lakeville schools (elem., middle and high school). It is a great school district! They have nice buildings, wonderful staff, great scores and I found them to always have a welcoming environment. There are 2 high schools; North and South. South High School is the "new" school the PP was referring to.
Once you find a house you are interested in call the elementary school and ask for a tour from the principal. S/He will show you around and be able to answer any questions you might have. You will learn a lot from that short visit and should help you.
I live in the north metro so I'm not much help with the southern suburbs, but I am in teaching so I have some advice there. Having subbed at different schools within the same district I can say just because you are in a similar area does not mean the schools are similar. Like pp said, there are going to be some amount of "issues" (drugs, alcohol, etc) in each and every type of school.
I would start by figuring out what you are looking for in a school. Talk to friends and family memebers who have school-aged children and figure out what they like/dislike about their school. Take tours of the schools in your area to find one's that you like.
Open enrollment is becomming much more popular so it may be an option to enroll your child in a school that is not in your neighborhood/district. You just have to be able to get them to and from school.
I grow up in Lakeville, What kind of information would you like ? I was always part of the Sp ED program & all I can say is some of the teachers SUCKED but I am sure you will get that any where (trust me it was not good,I had teachers telling me I would never go to college, if you really want to know more just send me a PM). I graduated before the new school was build so I really liked the "one town one school" set up.
I really do like Lakeville & still wish I lived down there.
Like I said feel free to PM & we can talk more. My mom still works in the schools so I can ask her information also.
