Anyone have any tips to share, were planning to have one in sept to weed out some stuff before we move.
Re: Garage sale tips...
it is amazing how quickly stuff for .25 or .50 adds up!! LOL
I really don't have any good tips, except for to be organized. Make sure you have enough change on hand. Periodically take money you have made in the house and put it somewhere safe rather than leave it on you all day. Advertise on CL!! I will never advertise in the Blade again.
And I hate generalizing people and am not saying this to be racist in any way whatsoever. But seriously keep an eye on the foreigners, they are relentless.
I advertised in the blade too. I think I did get people in but I also got a bunch from Craigslist too. I would do both and I did it thurs fri and sat morning on craigslist.
Jewlery went quickly and people asked for flatware and coins (they were CRAZY). My good stuff I didn't put out but like target earings and stuff that all went quick for like $2 or $3 bucks.
Saturday I did half off everything (cept for a few items liek my ipod and stuff) just to get rid of it.
After the sale only one box came back into the house. Everything literally went right into the car and got dropped off at Savers before I had second thoughts!
I kept a tally of the money I made on a sheet of paper.
I advertised in the local paper and on CL, but I also got a lot of traffic from putting out big brightly colored signs at the corner of our street.
People will buy really random stuff. My neighbor set out a bunch of half empty bottles of hairspray and shampoo and they sold like crazy.
Try and set out as much stuff as you can, stuff in crates doesn't sell well because a lot of people won't look through them.

"Cheese!"
The more tables the better.
I ended up taking my TV trays out there and putting stuff on them. I finally sold some end tables from college...it was nice to clean up. I borrowed tables from work but I used saw horses from the garage and put old sheets of plywood on them too. (I had too much stuff).
Electronic's didn't really sell. I had a couple printers and computers. I did sell the really old laptop but the computer towers never sold. Pet stuff sold, books were ify, my stuff from the wedding never sold. I had plastic glasses and the wedding ones sold but not the champagne. I sold a bunch of picnic baskets too.
