XP: a good friend's brother just passed away :(

I just found out this afternoon from my friend's cousin. We're going to the wake tomorrow evening. I would really really love to do something for her and her family, but have no idea what. Flowers? Just a card? Fruit basket?

I was near tears when my friend told me. He was 22 and they were such a close-knit family. And she's getting married in exactly a month from today!

Re: XP: a good friend's brother just passed away :(

  • I'm so sorry.  That is horrible.  You could send food to the house or flowers at the wake. I am sure she would appreciate a card. What a terrible loss.
  • I'm so sorry Yuliiya. Usually people send tons of flowers or baskets and stuff. Personally, I would probably make a donation to a charity in his memory. I don't how he died or what his interests were, but if you could think of one they might feel any personal connection to its even better.

  • I am so sorry. I would send some food or flowers, and yes a card is always nice, as well.

  • Thanks ladies! I really appreciate your help. Now, stupid question, do we bring a card/flowers to the wake tonight or send them to their house?
  • ummm...I'd say bring the card to the wake and send the flowers? That's totally up to you tho'...

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, this is really terrible.  I am sure the family would appreciate food one night, and a card is always meaningful.  Sending positive vibes your way and to your friend's family.
  • Bring the card, and I suggest sending a plant instead of flowers.  I have a few plants sent to me when I was going through a loss and while it may not be a traditional choice I really love them, it feels like they are attached to the person somehow (I know that's kinda odd sounding perhaps) and I think of them every time I water the plant etc.

We're currently on a 15 month trip around the world!

  • I am so sorry to hear that, that is so sad.

Have flowers/plant delivered to the funeral home.  Bring the card with you, or mail it to their house.
