planning a mennonite bachlorette party

So I am the maid of honor for a friend of mine. Her family is very strict mennonite, therefore there cannot be any "craziness" at her bachlorette party(no alcohol, male strippers, etc.). What kind of games/activities can I do? My own party was really low-key, but it was also boring, so I don't want that to be the case here.

Re: planning a mennonite bachlorette party

  • What if you just go out to a nice restaurant for dinner?

Or what if you plan a day of activities (I don't know what the bride to be likes to do, but some ideas: beach, hiking, go carts/bumper boats/mini-golf, jewelry class, etc.).

  • Is there an event (comedians, concerts, fair/carnival) going on nearby on the night of the party? My friends and I went to the B-52s concert at a local fairground, and it was SO much fun!

Could you throw a lingire or a honeymoon shower instead of a "bachelorette party"? That way, it's still sort of "racy" but you don't need alcohol or anything to keep it fun.

  • What about doing mani/pedis?  You could either do it at home or go to spa.

Dinner and show could also be fun.

I agree. I think more of a pampering party would be appropriate.

  • Spa day is a great idea.  Or some shops near us have DIY pottery, beading or cooking classes that will accommodate big groups.
  • I really like the spa ideas and also the paint your own pottery. I used to have a friend who worked at one of the stores and she said it was always such a great time when they had parties in there.

I've also been to trips to a large mall with just the girls, Mary-Kay makeovers and like mentioned before, dinner at nice restaurants.

I really wanted to go paint-balling for my own but my b-maids vetoed the idea. An amusement park would be another PG but really fun option!

  • spa day, bowling, pool party, laser tag, skating, craft party (work together to make something for the couple?) canoe trip, and scavenger hunts are always fun!

    Ditto this.

  • i would definitely NOT recommend a lingerie party.

the mennonites that i know are into cooking, sewing, reading and home-schooling.  i'm sure they are tons of more things that they are interested in, but that would depend on the individual.

what about classes for any of those activities?  if they are into sewing, it might be fun for everyone to make a block to sew a wedding quilt for the couple.  you could find someone to finish it once you have the blocks done.  i would imagine that everyone could do a block in an afternoon.  just a thought.

cooking would be fun, even if it was done at your place or another place big enough to hold everyone.  you could ask everyone to bring the ingredients necessary to make their favorite dish.  then during the party everyone could prepare the dish, then you have the food covered for the party and they have their gift, and they write down the recipe and present it to the bride along with a photo of the person at the party.  it could be like a cookbook scrapbook that she would use for years and get a kick out of the memory when she sees the pic next to the finished dish.

scrapbooking is another fun idea.  you could ask everyone attending to write down their marriage advice on pretty decorative paper and then you can work together as a group to make a small advice scrapbook for the bride.  if you paired that with some good food and music as the background i think it would be a fun party.

  • I had a bunch of out of town friends for my wedding and put together a girls night in.  I had a Lia Sophia jewelry rep come out and do her spiel and also my local Mary Kay Lady came in and did hers.  I made sure both reps knew what it was for so they weren't real pushy with the sales etc (I actually did pretty well) and everyone from my 8 year old step-daughter to my 80 year old gramma had a blast! You could maybe even find a Pampered Chef rep or something to come in too.

    Good Luck

  • My friends and I pretty conservative, so we ran into this for my bachelorette party.  We did manis/pedis earlier in the day, then my MOH decided, since it was the middle of July and they had a pool, so just have the girls down for a pool party.  We laid by the pool and caught up (since most of my wedding party was from out of town).  We ended up not going in because it suddenly got to cold to swim, but we still had a great time.  It was very low key, but not boring at all, because we went out of our way to make it exciting!
