XP from travel. Florida trip.
I am planning a trip to Florida for the first week of Nov. All I know right now is we are flying in to Fort Lauderdale then driving down to Key West for a few days. Then we have the rest of the week.. up to about 7 days to travel back north through Florida and wherever else and decide where to fly from to get home. Does anybody have any ideas on places to go or things to do in Key West and anywhere inbetween? I would like to go to Disney World one day and up to Savannah, Georgia.. maybe Louisiana. Would this be too much?
Re: XP from travel. Florida trip.
Well, you sound like you'll be doing a TON of driving...what I would do is narrow in on an area with a lot to do. Maybe stick to South Florida? Key West is nice, the hemingway house is there and there's a restaurant called sloppy joes where Hemingway used to eat at all the time (technically it was rebuilt after he died but it's a really neat place to eat), there is also the 90 miles to Cuba sign that I guess is neat to see once. I don't really suggest beaches in the keys though, they're mostly rocky. I'd definitely go to Miami Beach for a day the beaches there are A LOT nicer than the ones in the keys. Disney could very easily be a two-day thing. Miami (4 hours North of Key West) to the panhandle takes 9+ hours so I'd reconsider GA.
Wow that is a lot of driving! I agree with pp about narrowing your trip a bit. Maybe head down to Key West and then just stick with going up I-95 since you want to go to Disney World.
In Key West they have the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square every evening at sunset which is interesting to say the least (lots of activity, street performers, etc.). They also have some places where you can go swimming with dolphins. I think there are a few different places to do that so you may want to just google it to find one you like.
Since you are headed to Disney you may want to hit Daytona Beach too. I think it's about a hour or so northeast of Orlando. If you stuck with I-95 you could easily go up to Savannah since it's not far off of 95.I think Savannah would be about 4 hours or so north of Daytona.
GL and HTH!
