Is 94 into Michigan City flooded?

DH & I are thinking of going to Serenity Springs Resort in Michigan City this Saturday, but concerned about which highways & roads are closed due to the flooding.  These are the directions on their website:

Serenity Springs is just minutes from Michigan City and LaPorte off of Interstate 94. For additional information or to make reservations, call 219-861-0000.

From the West - Take I-94 to Exit 40A (US 20 East). Turn Right onto US 35 at the stop light. Take the first available Right (approximately 50 feet) and follow the curves to Serenity Springs.

Re: Is 94 into Michigan City flooded?

  • From the west, the Litttle Calumet River has flooded again and I believe 94 is still closed because of that, but there are detours.  I have a lot of family in the area and the Michigan City people seem to be having no issues since school was never even cancelled there.  The people in Munster and Merrillville are having a lot of issues with detours and road closings.  The traffic has been unbearable there because of congestion from the detours.  I had a meeting cancelled in Merrillville tonight because of 94 and 65.  I pasted everything to give you an idea of what you are facing.  The local paper is www.nwi.com and the INDOT website are updating as often as possible.  Here is the INDOT info from The Times:

According to INDOT, as 1:30 p.m. the following local highways are closed:

-- Northbound I-65 between U.S. 24 in Jasper County and the Borman Expressway (I-80/94) in Lake County. All traffic is being detoured to take U.S. 24, west to Interstate 57 in Illinois. Motorists traveling to Northwest Indiana can continue west on U.S. 24, north on U.S. 41 to U.S. 30. Traffic on I-65 can travel only as far north as U.S. 24 before being diverted to U.S. 24 westbound to either I-57 in Illinois or take northbound U.S. 41 to U.S. 30.

-- Eastbound I-80/94 between the Illinois state line and Ind. 51. Motorists traveling from Illinois are being directed south on Ill. 394 to U.S. 30, east to Ind. 49 and north to I-94. Motorists can access eastbound I-80/94 and the Indiana Toll Road at Ind. 51. Traffic from Chicago can take the Chicago Skyway east with no tolls at Hammond's Westpoint Toll Plaza to Ind. 51 to eastbound Interstate 94; or south on Ill. 394 to eastbound U.S. 30.

-- Westbound I-80/94 between Ind. 51 in Lake County and the Illinois state line. Motorists traveling from Michigan are being directed west to I-90 or Ind. 49, then south to U.S. 30 and west. Traffic can access westbound I-80/94 at Indianapolis Blvd. Westbound traffic wanting to go to Chicago can continue west on I-94 to I-90 with no tolls to at Hammond's Westpoint Toll Plaza. Westbound I-94 traffic wanting to access I-65 can take Ind. 49 south to U.S. 30 and west to I-65.

-- Ind. 53, between 101st Avenue and 93rd Avenue in Crown Point.

-- Ind. 55, between the towns of Thayer in Newton County and Shelby in Lake County. Northbound motorists are being directed to Ind. 10, west to U.S. 41, north to Ind. 2 east and back to Ind. 55.
