Tell me about Lake Geneva

DH & I want a getaway this Saturday - Sunday for a special occasion. Is it worth the drive for this short time? We're in the western burbs.

What is there to do? Where should we stay? Where to eat? we prefer an in-room jacuzzi/ whirlpool for two.  We like to stay somewhere that we can walk to the shops, restaurants, etc. Is there a lake cruise of some kind?  Trolley stops?  something fun & romantic to do?

Re: Tell me about Lake Geneva

  • Me and my husband LOVE Lake Geneva- we have gone up there twice, once for a whole weekend and once for less that 12 hours... it is worth the money and drive! the first time we stayed in a room with a jacuzzi downtown and it was nice, we had a good time.  The second time we stayed at the Abbey Resort outside of town and we LOVED it.  They have everything there, we ate dinner, we went to the cigar bar and had drinks then we went their adult swim (they only allow adults and the give you champagne, what could be better) then we got dressed again and went down to the bar and they had a band... we had so much fun, it was SUPER Romantic and we loved it!!! I would totally recommend doing it.... we live in Schaumburg so it is about an hour drive and it is great!!!!
  • what was the name of the hotel with the jacuzzi?  Can you walk to the downtown area from that hotel?
  • Well I just remember i was there once with my family too... ok The Cove downtown has jacuzzi's in the hotel, it is nice, i stayed there with my family and then right next door is like Mill Rose or something like that and that is where me and the hubby stayed and they have jacuzzi's too... Both are nice, both are more like suites and yes you can walk downtown and you are right accross from the lake.  They are equal distance from most things... depending on what the two of you are looking to do, I can recommend some good restaurants and also there is a little spa within walking distance where me and the hubby got a couples massage, it was wonderful!  Let me know, i will check the board again later.
  • I'd love any info you have, thanks!
  • Ok- there is not much to do in town in regards to good restaurants, there is a Houlihans attached to the Cove and then some other little restaurants around the town, there is suppose to be a really good restaurant in a house like right next to the lake and the cove, maybe try there... otherwise there are some nice restaurants out at the Grand Geneva Resort....

As for massage, i have been to a few Spas in town and at the Grand Geneva Resort and this one is my favorite.. here is the info...

I hope that helps- let me know how your trip goes, me and the hubby will be giong back this fall but we will probably only go back to the Abbey Resort from now on, it was amazing and we loved it!  However, we are always up for new tips so if you stay somewhere and have a great experience i would love to hear about it...

  • P.S. I am new to the boards and I have been trying to figure this out... maybe you can help, what does DH stand for?
  • Hi Girls,?

Sorry for lurking in on your conversation, but the DH (Dear Husband :) just moved to the Chicago burbs a month ago, and I've heard amazing things about lake Geneva! ?So, I peeked in to see what you had to say ?:) ?Our two year anniversary is coming up in October and we were looking for a romantic weekend getaway... this sounds great! ?:) ??

  • Lake Geneva is a special place for us because thats where we went for our honeymoon.

We stayed on the grounds of the Grand Geneva resort and it was absolutely beautiful. Rather than staying at the actual hotel/resort, we opted for the private villas that were more like condos. You can contact Anthony and view his website HERE.

The villas are across from the actual resort and are much better laid out than the Grand Geneva rooms. They are also cheaper than the hotel/resort rates. The best part is, as a guest at the villas, you get a lot of discounts that the guests of the hotel/resort do not get. We got discounts on all our meals eaten at the resort, spa services and even entrance fees to their indoor water park.

Because we stayed at a villa, we had a full kitchen, dining room, living room, balcony, jacuzzi tub big enough for two, washer & dryer.... and Walmart is literally a 1 minute drive from the resort grounds (making it easy to pick up food to cook for a romantic meal or anything you might have forgotten to pack.)

If you need additional information, please let me know.

  • Sounds WONDERFUL, Joelen... thanks so much for all the info!! ?:)
  • Thanks for the help on the DH issue... I am all set now....

The Grand Geneva Resort is wonderful, I haven't stayed there but when I was there with my family over Christmas 3 years ago we went skiing there and went to several restaurants out there... it is beautiful and nice... Everytime i searched their rooms though they did seem a bit higher than some of the other hotels and resorts in the area.. however, i would love to stay there and try it out!

Any other questions, just ask... Lake Geneva is a little dear to me as well because me and the hubby have gone up there several times and each time it has just been an amazing experience for us.
